American Wrestling Federation adds TV coverage The American Wrestling Federation has added television coverage in the Panama City area. The AWF is on Comcast Channel 9 at 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoons. The AWF is also on Springfield city cable from noon to 1 p.m., Panama City WMBB Channel 13 on Sunday at 2 a.m., and WDHN Channel 18 in Dothan at 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. The American Wrestling Federation was founded in March, and is enjoying steady growth in television coverage and house shows. The AWF has house shows the first and third Saturdays of every month at Roulhac Community Center in Chipley at 8 p.m. Plans are in the works to add a monthly house show in the Panama City area within the next few weeks. The AWF will also do fund-raisers with community organization. The AWF provides quality professional wrestling, providing a mix of modern styles with “old-school” southern technical wrestling. If you do, here’s your opportunity! The AWF will hold tryouts beginning at noon Sunday, August 3, at Roulhac Community Center in Chipley. Eight finalists will have the opportunity to try out for the AWF in four “dark matches” during our monthly TV taping. Anyone interested in trying out must first contact either Garry Johnson at 850-638-7183, or Larry Land at 850-415-1030, for an interview. NO EMAILS! Finalists will be notified when they are selected. The AWF is on Springfield city cable from noon to 1 p.m., but as of July 13, the AWF is also on WMBB Channel 13. The show airs for a half-hour on Sunday at 2 a.m. The AWF program has aired on WDHN Channel 18 in Dothan at 11:30 p.m. Saturday night for several weeks. The Panama City broadcast was scheduled to begin on July 6; however, WMBB said that due a technical glitch an infomercial was mistakenly run in place of the AWF broadcast. The main event was a four-corners tables, ladders and chairs (TLC) tag-team match between Coalition-X (former WWE superstar Road Dogg Jesse James and Jason Hero), Freakshows of Faith (Sinn and Forsaken, accompanied by Hell Kat), Backdraft and Confederate Kid, and Mr. Fantasy (accompanied by Sexy Samantha) and The Assassin (accompanied by the notorious Eddie G). The exciting match was won by Coalition-X. Plans are underway to return to Ozark in August after a considerable number of requests from Ozark-area fans, and other civic center shows are also planned. They are directly responsible for our success. I think we are the best because we have the best”. “The fans throughout the area told us what they want”, said Public Relations Director Jay Felsberg. “They want high-energy, technical matches with storylines they can follow. In our fan poll on our Yahoo fan site, about 64 percent said they want entertaining, technical wrestling”. Felsberg named director of marketing and public relations for AWF Jay Felsberg was named director of marketing and public relations for American Wrestling Federation on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. “I’m looking forward to being part of the AWF team as we expand into new markets”, Felsberg said. “The AWF has the best wrestling talent in the region and an excellent plan for business growth. We are expanding our television coverage and the number of house shows every month”. Felsberg has 25 years experience in journalism in newspapers in New Jersey, Tennessee and Alabama. Most recently he was editor of Geneva Newspapers, Inc., in Geneva, AL for over seven years until leaving that company in January.
