AWF Report 5/10/03

Reported By Jay Felsberg on 5/10/03.

Results of Hartford show May 10

Professional wrestling returned to Hartford on Saturday, May 10 as the American Wrestling Federation held its first show at the Johnny Hughes Community Center. Many of the top names, which appeared in Hartford earlier in the year, were on hand before a lively crowd in the auditorium of old Geneva County High School.

Forsaken beat Backdraft to open the card, while in the next match Damian (accompanied by the masked Assassin) was disqualified against Ultimo Dragon and fined $500 by Commissioner Karen McDaniel. The two heels then ganged up on the Dragon and unmasked him. At first, Dragon hid his face, but then popped up to reveal that he is actually Kris Korrupt! Look for more to come from this altercation.

The Assassin (or “The Ass-sssin” as he was labeled recently by Road Dogg Jesse James) was not through. He challenged Dirty Larry Brock, telling the popular Brock that if DLB could last five minutes in the ring with the Assassin, then the masked man would leave DLB alone. The Assassin has been a thorn in the Dirty One’s side as of late when Brock refereed matches.

The challenge was met! DLB danced around the ring to make up some of those five minutes, and gave The Assassin all he could take in and out of the squared circle. In the end, Dirty Larry got deliberately disqualified to keep the war going with The Assassin. “This ain’t over”! DLB told the crowd.

Sinn took on Confederate Kid in a match of two strongly contrasting styles. The Kid’s “old school” moves clashed with Sinn’s superkicks and top-of-the-turnbuckle action. Forsaken’s distraction led to Sinn getting the Kid in a Texas Cloverleaf for the tap-out.

Just before intermission, Luscious Larry, Risqué Rachel and manager Dandy Jack came to the ring. The Luscious One is still recovering from a training injury, but he told the crowd that he will be at the next Hartford show on May 31 “Stylin’ and profilin’”.

At intermission Zac McDaniel presented flowers to the youngest and oldest mothers, and the mother who brought the most children to the show. Happy Mothers Day to all.

Jason Hero (accompanied by Amber the American Beauty) took on the increasingly unpredictable Curtis Leroy and manager Dandy Jack. The maniacal Leroy was in charge early, but pulled on by chants of “USA-USA”, Hero came back. Ceazar came to the ring to confront Leroy, his regular nemesis, and while the unpredictable one was distracted, Hero hit a spear to set up the Stars and Strips Splash. Leroy dodged the spash and covered Hero using the ropes for leverage. Leroy was caught by referee Dirty Larry Brock and while the unpredictable one was arguing with DLB, Hero turned the tables on him and used the ropes himself for a pinfall! “Can’t see everything”, Larry told a berserk Leroy and Dandy Jack.

Next up was a $1,000 Battle Royal. Under the rules, 10 wrestlers entered at one-minute intervals. Elimination was over the top rope. Damian was first in and eliminated the next wrestler, Backdraft. Forsaken entered next, followed by Sinn and Confederate Kid. The Kid was second out. Damian left next following a Sinn neck breaker. The Assassin and Jason Hero were next in, with Hero leaving next and Forsaken next over the top rope. Curtis Leroy and Ceazar were next to arrive, as The Assassin left followed quickly by Leroy. The last “competitor”, The Man, The Myth, The Legend, AWF Heavyweight Champion Blake Richards, announced that he would not participate due to “lack of competition”. Ceazar was then eliminated, giving the win and the cash to Sinn!

Sinn then did the first ever “Sinnaroonie” and took down referee Dirty Larry Brock and was in turn taken out by the Assassin, who also belted Larry and took the cash and fled. “You will see why they gave me the name dirty next time I see you”, said DLB.

The main event was a rematch for the heavyweight championship between Cezar and The Man, The Myth, The Legend, AWF Heavyweight Champion Blake Richards. The two men staged a great match; with the devious Richards needing every trick in the book to hold off the powerful Ceazar. Richards’ chops in particular only served to make the big man from Las Vegas madder than he already was. Ceazar was again foiled by his archenemy, Curtis Leroy, who distracted the challenger long enough for Richards to roll him up for the pin.

That brought Commissioner Karen McDaniel to the ring. The commissioner told Richards and Leroy that there will be a rematch in Chipley on May 17, and that any interference will result in suspension!

AWF wrestling returns to Hartford on May 31 at 8 p.m., Johnny Hughes Community Center.
