Chapter 5
Rory knew what she had to do. She was walking straight towards Dean’s house and was really nervous, but she knew that she had to make things right between them in order to not feel guilty about being with Jess, because that would only hurt her and Jess. She got to the door quicker then she had planned, but walked up the steps and rang the bell. Clara opened the door “Oh, hi Rory” she said nonchalantly “I’ll get Dean…. Deeeeeeeeaaaaannn” she called an walked off into their house. Rory braced herself as she heard Dean descending the stairs and she saw him come to the door, see her and scowl. “Yea?” he said, obviously not pleased to see her. “Dean, I was wondering if you wanted to get coffee with me” she said firmly “I need to talk to you, and it really can’t wait.”
“You, want to get coffee with me? Why?” he asked “I told you, I need to tell you something” she replied “At Luke’s?” he asked she got quiet “No, not at Luke’s” she said “Oh, so your sneaking behind his back too huh Rory?” he asked smirking “Yes, and no, Jess trusts me, he won’t mind that I’m doing this” she said, she was totally confident about that. “Ok, let me get my coat” he said, resignedly.

They were sitting in the gazebo, and Rory was waiting for a reaction out of Dean. She had just finished telling him how sorry she was, and she would take back all of the hurt she had given him if she could, that she had once loved him and still wanted to be friends. “Friends? You want me to be your friend, after everything you did to me?” he asked, almost angrily “I know, its selfish of me, but yes, I want things to be right between me and you, I can’t stand avoiding you, you are a great guy and I like you, just not like I used to.” She replied. Dean breathed in deeply and there was another awkward silence “Ok, I can be your friend, as long as I don’t have to be his friend to.” Said Dean “I totally understand, you don’t even have to talk to him if you don’t want to,” she babbled, she to took a deep breath “So your sure about this, I mean it won’t be to awkward for you?” she asked “Well yea” he said “I’d rather have you as a friend then nothing at all” she smiled and they hugged. As they broke apart she noticed Jess staring at them from across the street. ‘Ok, this could potentially be bad’ she thought, she knew Jess trusted her, but she had a feeling this couldn’t turn out well. He walked up the gazebo stairs. “What’s going on here Rory?” he asked, not loudly or angrily, but she did hear something in his vouce, what was it? Could it be…fear?. ‘Ok, he’s not mad, that’s a good thing’ Rory thought. She looked at Dean, he was staring at Jess with an angry expression in his eyes. Rory stood up. “Its nothing Jess, we were just having coffee” she said quietly. “Ok, are you done?” he asked, with a slight edge to his voice. Ok maybe he was a tad angry she thought, she took his arm “Lets go get something to eat” she said “I’ll see you later Dean” she said, he just nodded silently.

Rory followed Jess to the diner, and up the stairs to the apartment above. He sat down on his bed and looked at her “Rory, I want to know what is going on, are you still into Dean?” he asked quietly, he wasn’t angry or jealous, maybe a bit insecure, but he trusted her just the same, so he was not going to yell, he thought to himself. “Jess! Of course not!” she said, stunned that he would even think that. “Then what were you doing??” he asked, trying to control his voice “I told you, we were just having coffee Jess, you have nothing to worry about”. She stepped forward and touched his face “Jess I really really hurt Dean when we broke up, I had lied to his and deceived him for months, and now I’m just trying to make it right. I like Dean, he is a great person and I want to be his friend, I’m not asking you to be his friend also, but I am asking you to trust me. I am going to be hanging around with Dean sometimes, and I know you may not like that, but if you trust me you will not be angry.” She said to him, looking him straight in the eye. “Rory, you know I trust you, and I’m not mad. But you should have told me about this. I have no problem with you hanging out with Dean, but just let me know ok? I am a little insecure though, I mean, I know that you and I ended up together because we became friends first, and I don’t want to lose you the same way because you are so special to me Rory.” He said. She smiled at him tentatively, paused and continued with such sincerity she wiped away all his fears “Jess, I made my decision between you and Dean a long time ago, It shouldn’t even be really called a decision because it was so one sided. I want to be with you Jess, I always have. What existed between Dean and I died a long time ago, it started dying the day I met you, and you and I? We are so good for each other. You are the perfect guy for me and I wake up every morning thanking my lucky stars that you came into my life.” She was whispering now. He looked at her, she was so beautiful, and right then he knew everything was going to be ok, better then Ok, it was going to be perfect “I feel exactly the same way,” he hesitated “Lorelai Leigh Gilmore?” he put his hand on her cheek “I Love you” he looked deep into her beautiful blue eyes, and heard her say it to, what he had been waiting so long to hear “I love you to Jess” and they kissed, and for those moments, everything was perfect, this was love, true, forever, perfect.
