JOOK members TREVOR WHITE and IAN HAMPTON reviews from '75 below....

we recieved this EXCELLENT cd in the beginning of Nov. '05 and we think it rules from start to finish, allthough we think the track listing order shoulda been a bit different, forget reviews by people such as Gullboy who did an injustice when he reviewed this cd, you'll can now see a real review of the previously unreleasedsongs on this is cd on this page from the site that championed this band when we began back in '99......our original reviews can be found on the homepage, and our 2nd Jook section on page 5 :), elsewhere you'll find a few galleries for them in our gateways especially atop our gateway 2....

JOOK were the ultimate 70s singles band who released several singles from '72 - '74, and after they broke up a GREAT 4 track ep called 'AGGRAVATION PLACE' came out, their style was mod/glam garage, kinda teenage who/sweet/slade pre - punk sound,

The official JOOK cd

the 7 previously unreleased songs on this cd are.......

1 'DIFFERENT CLASS'

definitive pre-punk, guitars HARD as nails, LOUD drums too, has a long jam in the middle, this song is over 4:30, probably recorded around early ' 74.........' 'MOHAIR SAM'

another Good song, this one is a cover of a 60s tune, they really GRIND the melodies out of the guitar here.......' 'HEY DOLL'

PERFECT ! what a heartfelt song, really GREAT ballad, begins acoustically then changes as the guitar builds up later in the song........RALF KIMMETT wrote this number for his wife Helen, sounds kinda like they were listening to the RASPBERRIES , and 60s SWEET pop when they did this....'HEY DOLL SOMETIMES IT's SO HARD, WHEN YOUR NOT HERE BESIDE ME IT's SO HARD, IF ONLY THEY COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT U MEAN TO ME, AND HOW MYHEART BEATS FASTER WHEN WE MEET, HEY DOLL SOMETIMES IT's SO HARD, HEY DOLL SOMETIMES I GET LOW......

'EVERYTHING I DO'

these last 2 tracks Jook fans will recognize as acoustic versions of some of their best, these were actually IAN KIMMETT solo tracks with friends and are REALLY GREAT........this one is played tight, and fast.....(spoken; 'here we go r-r ian kimmett rolling, ladies and gentlemen ian kimmett ).............'GOT TO GET MYSELF A GOOD FAST CAR, HEAD ON DOWN THE HIGHWAY, NOW IT's TIME TO DO THINGS MY WAY.............'

TREVOR WHITE

in ' 07 Myspace pages for 70s pre-punk champions JOOK surfaced along with one for JOOK member TREVOR WHITE, in ' 75 after the SPARKS tour he along with JOOK member IAN HAMPTON, drummer DINKY DIAMOND, and guitarist ADRIAN FISHER got together and recorded some pretty good tunes, here are reviews of the 4 songs offered at the Myspace page......

'I SEE THE LIGHT'

GREAT chioce in covering JAY and the AMERICANS garage classic 'i see the light', as the band does justice to the track doing a good solid garage rock version with harmonies, ' I SEE THE LIGHT, AND IT's ALLRIGHT, IT's ALLRIGHT'.........

2 'SHOT FROM A GUN'

this one is cool power-pop with harmonies, and STONESY guitar work, this is pretty good considering it was half of JOOK.......' I DIDN' T KNOW WHAT I WAS MISSING, I WAS OUT THERE HAVING FUN, TOO MANY FACES..........LIKE A SHOT FROM A GUN, I WAS COAUGHT LIKE A TIGER ON THE RUN'.......

3 'ADRIAN'S BOOGIE'

elec. guitar instrumental track, ok nothing great....

4 'IF IT's LOVE THAT YOU WANT'

this one is funky cool glam probably written by WHITE as were most of these no doubt, sounds very 1975.......' DO YOU WANT TO BE IN MY BAND, IF SO YOU GET RIGHT IN THE CADIALLAC, IF YOU WANT ME TO BE COLD AS ICE, WELL YOU BETTER THINK TWICE, WELL IF SO, THATS ALLRIGHT WITH ME'

Recent FDA Court Losses

In spite of the dictatorial powers given the FDA by Congress to crush alternative medicine (technically the FDA works for Congress), in recent years the FDA has lost some critical court cases. It seems there are still a few tough judges willing to stand up to Big Brother.

There are two key problems the FDA has run into.

First, is the issue of scientific evidence. There is a growing number of long-term studies which yield high quality, published scientific evidence linking natural substances to health benefits. Natural health vendors have begun to put this information on their labels, literature and web sites. The FDA does not like that.

Linking truth to products is not acceptable to the FDA. They want the product and the truth to be on separate galaxies and they prefer that the truth be totally suppressed.

Second, is that problematic document that Congress routinely ignores called the Constitution. It seems our founding fathers were not paid-off by Big Pharma and they put a clause in the Constitution regarding "Freedom of Speech." In fact, it is the first amendment, so they must have worried that government would abuse freedom of speech once government got big and corrupt. They were right.

Of course for years the FDA has gotten around the freedom of speech issue by pretending to be concerned about the health of the American people. But with the new studies, it seems that there is now significant, high-quality scientific evidence that favors natural substances and some courts have noticed.

So put yourself in the shoes of the FDA and think for a moment. For decades you have successfully ignored the Constitution, but new scientific discoveries are coming out, and are being used in courts. Suddenly your facade of dignity is getting fairly large cracks in it. What are you going to do?

Before reading on, stop reading and ponder and think about how you would overcome this new obstacle (hint: come up with a really profound sounding slogan that has no meaning). Write down your answer...

Well, what did you come up with?

The FDA came up with the slogan: "significant scientific agreement." The concept of "significant scientific agreement" dates back to the Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1997 (NLEA), which was partly or completely written by the FDA.

What in the world is "significant scientific agreement?" The first time the FDA tried to use this new term in court, the court wanted to know what it meant (actually, only the appellate court wanted to know). The FDA had no answer and lost the case at the appellate level.

Since that time the FDA has spent a lot of time and money figuring out how to define the term "significant scientific agreement" so that it could be used in court to crush scientific evidence and crush freedom of speech.

Before getting into the nitty-gritty details, let's look at the big picture. What is the intent of the concept of significant scientific agreement? The intent is to give orthodox opinions more credibility than actual scientific studies.

In other words, the FDA wanted some way to negate actual published scientific studies. They cannot refute the statistical data, so they have attempted to use that old standby - orthodox opinions - to negate truth.

Let us think about orthodox opinions. First we must understand that Medical Doctors are trained in medical schools that are largely funded and historically totally controlled (both directly and indirectly) by the pharmaceutical industry.

Thus, anyone with an M.D. behind their name is guaranteed to have several characteristics:

They know virtually nothing about nutrition, They know nothing truthful about alternative treatments for cancer, The are totally brainwashing into believing chemotherapy and radiation are actually good for a patient, They hate alternative medicine because it cuts into their profits, and They think all alternative medicine is quackery (i.e. they think God doesn't know anything about chemistry). Couple this with massive conflicts of interest, such as the Mayo Clinic, and other cancer research organizations, receiving millions of dollars in funding for cancer "research," and you have the sum total of "orthodox opinion."

JOOK's cd release was the best for 70s rock from the u.k. period, in '06 a lesser known 70s glam band from N.y. got our award for the best release of a 70s u.s. band, see our review in our gateway 4 or see this link
