MERCHANT FAMILY GENEALOGY/GRANDPA'S PAGE

Grandpa (Daniel Bradford Merchant) and his mother, "Big Mama"(Menzora Taylor Merchant).

My Grandmother, Ruby Gray O'mary Merchant, born Oct 15,1922, and died July 26,2003

Daniel Bradford Merchant was born September 28,1916, in Lamar County, Alabama and died on June 4, 1978, in church at Sulligent, Alabama.
He was the son of Samuel Claude Merchant and Menzora Taylor. He married Ruby Gray O'mary on February 13, 1937.
My Grandpa was a man of few words, but what words he spoke were from the heart and you knew he meant them. He was a wonderful, loving, and great man who loved to fish! I'll tell you - if that man went fishing, you'd just might as well break out the shortening and be ready to cook, because he was not going to come home empty handed! Word is that he kept a pint fruit jar in the window partly filled with water and a coke bottle turned upside down in the jar. He would check the jar every day, and when the water had moved into the bottle from the jar, then he would go and get his poles and head out the door. He always came back with a big stringer of fish.
I don't remember Big Mama, but I certainly wish I did. If there are any of you out there that knew her, I would be so honored to have you email me and tell me about her.

This picture is of Samuel Claude Merchant and Menzora Taylor Merchant
Samuel Claude Merchant, my gr-grandfather was born on July 29, 1883, and died on March 12, 1951.
He was the son of Columbus Leander Merchant, born January 27,1857, and Sara Elizabeth Loggins, born August 22, 1857.This is another one that I would really love to hear about. He died 3 years before I was born.If any of you knew him or heard your people talk of him, I would really like to hear about it. He and Menzora are buried at Wofford Cemetary between Sulligent and Vernon, Alabama.
I have a list of all of Claude and Zora's children on page six. Check it out and see if you have anything to add on any of these names. Also, I am looking for the marriage date for Claude and Zora if anyone has that and wouldn't mind sharing.

Ok, this picture just says, "The Leandy Family". I am pretty sure that it is Columbus Leander Merchant's family, and I am almost sure of who sent me the picture, so if I am right, cuz, please get back ahold of me with some names to add for these faces. Otherwise, if any of you recognize this picture, then please jump on the old keyboard and send me an email or go back to page one and use the handy form at the bottom of the page. Either way, I would greatly appreciate the info.

I hope you have enjoyed your tour and that you have found something in my pages that may be useful in your search for your own heritage.
