Kevin and I were best friends for about four years. I can remember those days well. (Bike rides, basketball, ping pong, walks, games, going to the mall with Kevins brother) After about four years Kevin and I realized there was something between us more than just best friends. I realized how much I loved him and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Kevin felt a love for me long before I realized I loved him. Kevin kept his feelings to himself because I was dating somebody else at the time. Things turned out that the guy I was dating was not for me. ( Of course Kevin was glad of that) God knows what is best in everybodys life and if you truly seek him,God will give you the companion He wants you to have. I wanted God to give me a companion that was going to stay saved and serve God and put God first. Kevin and I dated about a year. Kevin was just getting out of High School and he still had to finish college. God had already blessed us with land and a trailer through another circumstance. Kevin and I made a budget out and we went and spoke with our pastor about us getting married. Kevin was 18 and I was 20. We were afraid with Kevin being so young that our pastor would advise us not to marry yet. We prayed much. When we went to talk with Bro. Spanogle he said “ O.K you just turned 19” Kevin said “ No I just turned 18” Bro. Spanogle said “ Oh I see.” Bro. Spanogle looked at our budget. He knew we had land and a place to live so he did not see why we could not marry. He wanted us to wait until the Spring, but we really wanted to marry in December. Bro. Spanogle teases us now and tells everybody that Kevin tried to pull one on him when he said he was 18. Bro. Spanogle thought Kevin was 19. We made it very clear that Kevin was 18. Kevin and I feel that God knew we were ready for marriage. There are many 18 year olds that are not ready for marriage. Kevin was very mature and ready for marriage. I was 20 and I was definatly ready for marriage. On December 04, 1992 I married my best friend. I wore a white weddinggown with a 6ft cascading train. My bridesmaids wore red dresses. Kevin was a volunteer firefighter for our community so we had the fire truck pick us up at the church and take us to the fire hall where our reception was held. Our marriage has been very good. The worst thing in our marriage was dealing with infertility. Gods grace was always there for us. I worked the first two years of our marriage. Kevin went to college. I have to tell something funny on Kevin. He was a real sweetheart and he would get up in the mornings with me before I went to work. Kevin would sit at the table with me while I ate breakfast. I could tell he was still sleepy. Kevin said as soon as I walked out the door for work he would run back to the bed and sleep. You might think he had it easy, but not really. His hours was spent going to college and when we was not at college he was home studing. I looked forward to the day that I could quit work and be a homemaker. Our plans were to start a family as soon as I quit work. Kevin got his degree in Respiratory Therpy. Kevin got a job at Huntsville Hospital. God blessed us with a bigger home. Kevin still works at the hospital. He is a Respiratory Therapist and supervisor. Kevin loves his job and the people that works for him. I am a stay at home mom. I also home school. Kevin and I are in the process of adding another member to our family. We are adopting from the Peoples Republic Of China. Even though Kevin and I married at a young age God has blessed us, and I would do it all over again. |
