My 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo
How I Acquired this Car
It all started with my Non-Turbo FWD Eclipse. I got into fixing it up and trying to make it go fast. After seeing my same car with every bolt on and coming to the realization that it was still very slow I decided I wanted a turbo car that was a manual and not front wheel drive. I began searching for an awd first generation dsm (Eclipse, Talon, or Laser). I didn't have any luck, so I began looking for a 240SX to do the Sylvia swap. I couldn't find one cheap enough to be able to afford the engine (which made it pointless). In the midst of my searching I happened to see the ad for the supra. I called and went and saw it just for the heck of it. It wasn't in the best shape and I had decided against it. Then I went and looked at it once more and drove it. A couple of days later it was in my yard.
Specs and Condition When Purchased
- Red with gray leather interior and a targa top
- Five-speed manual transmission turbo with 134,000 miles (new power steering pump, water pump, plugs and wires, and battery)
- The interior reeked of cigarettes, the paint was faded, the door handle broken, the leather worn, and it had a massive valley (crack) in the dash.
- It had a leaky hatch, no spare tire (not a bad thing, of course however the spare was on the car when I got it), a rusty exhaust system (not tampered with suprisingly)
- Car was completely stock although there was evidence of a previous stereo system.
- Stock hp- 232 0-60mph-6.4
My Improvements
- Got a door handle off ebay for $20 and painted red.
- Got new lift support for hood.
- Cut off exhaust.
- Took rear hatch and all interior panels out and cleaned. Removed jack and back seat permanently.
- Painted window wiper arms and replaced wiper blades.
- Cleaned about a gallon of water out of the hatch and the taillights and sealed up.
- Flushed radiator and power steering and cleaned reservoir.
- Sanded down the buckled up dash to the foam and filled it with vinyl sealant. It took 2 1/2 tubes (just to give an idea of how bad it was)
- Flushed the motor and did oil change with Mobil 1 Synthetic (15w40)
- Recarpeted in black with much thinner and better smelling carpet
- Painted all molding, and interior panels for custom two-tone look
- New leather e-brake boot
- New black leather shift boot

I have very big plans for this car. It is not my daily drive, only my play "project" car. Modifications for the first year will be very conservative until it is paid for. First projected mods are mandrel bent downpipe and cat replacement, and of couse some type of homemade intake. Eventually the engine will be rebuilt so hopefully it will hold up until then (especially the head gasket).
