Stag Beetle was created by Lord Zedd out of a drawing on a flyer for Stone Canyon's broomball team. In his fight with the Rangers, he managed to completely drain Tommy of his Green Ranger powers. As he battled the other Rangers, he fired blast after blast at them, each blast using up the Green Ranger power. Alpha created a deviced called an Energy Transducer for Tommy to use against Stag Beetle. By sucking one of Stag Beetle's blasts into the Transducer, Tommy regained his powers. At first thought destroyed by the Power Blaster, Stag Beetle was enlarged by Lord Zedd. Fighting the Thunder MegaZord, Stag Beetle lost his pincers to the Zord's Thunder Saber, then was destroyed by the weapon's finishing attack.
Stag Beetle later battled the Rangers as a hallucination, courtesy of Lord Zedd's monster Trumpet Top.
Stag Beetle, the real one, was later resurrected by Finster to assist Rito Revolto in ambushing the Thunder Zords. He was succesful in doing so, but wasn't seen again.
