Keys Overview

Programs at Elizabeth H. Keys Technology Center have become very technical in nature. The programs are designed to prepare students for the world of work and/ or transition into a two-year college or four-year university program. Vocational Technical education combines hands-on experience with lecture and theory. It relates academic subjects to the real world and shows how reading, science, and math are used in everyday situations. Courses challenge students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems in vocational and technical labs. Students receive a valuable addition to, rather than a substitute, for academic education. The programs offered at Keys Technology Center instill in students the desire to learn because students develop a sense of accomplishment, which fosters the self-assurance young people need to achieve their own goals.

These two-year programs are open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with the exception of Mississippi Cooperative Education (MCE), which is open to juniors and seniors. Students completing MCE earn 2 and ½ credits in a two term period. All other programs are worth 2 credits per two term period. Several programs have additional prerequisites, which are stated below the course description. All programs require a completed application for enrollment.
