A Letter to the Hypocrites |
||
As we enter a
period of what seems to be worldwide hostility, I think it is important
that we remember that there is another war being waged upon us all. As a
United States Marine this is more obvious to me than perhaps anyone who
is not a member of, or have a connection to a member of the armed
services involved in this conflict. Some of the greatest friends I have made, men and women who are my brothers and sisters, are now heading into a situation which is completely hostile and also one in which no one knows the absolute outcome. As they head into conflict, we who can not be by their side wait in anticipation, keeping our friends and family who are fighting to stop the terrorization of the world in our thoughts and prayers. We are torn inside, desiring peace, yet knowing that men like Saddam Hussein who constantly lie and inflict disaster upon the innocent must be stopped. I personally have many friends whom I dearly care for currently engaged in a war, where at any moment some terrible chemical may be used upon them. These men and women come from every walk of life and I do not know one of them who is a “war monger”. They, like myself and the so many other military personnel supporting them simply want the most peaceful resolution to this war on terror; however, we know that as in a game of chess, to be successful in winning, which in this case is to stop the ultimate terror and loss that we are indubitably faced with if we don’t resolve the issue at hand, we must confront the problem with the last means possibly available to us. In this case, due solely to Saddams’ unwillingness to cooperate with UN inspections and basically any peaceful attempt to undergo a search of his country, our last option available to ensure a peaceful future is to deal with a smaller conflict now. So many men and women protest the choices that president Bush has made, and in California these people who praise their cause because they feel there is in some way always a peaceful resolution, obviously decided that though our government is not allowed to use violence against terrorists who have slaughtered the innocent, they themselves are allowed and no doubt all too willing to use violence on our innocent men and women whose job is to uphold the peace in our own country. Perhaps it is just me, but the term hypocrite comes to mind. Allowing myself a moment of contempt and unprofessionalism aimed at these disgusting human beings, I say: If you don’t trust our government and way of life to the extent that you must take up arms against it; If you are willing to take actions of violence against the innocent men and women in our own country, then maybe you should extradite yourselves to a country where you will be led by men who are more suited to your way of life, I think that those men are currently residing in caves and bunkers at the moment. We live in a real world, not a Utopia children. If someone tells you they have never disagreed with the actions of our government, they lie. I will be the first to tell you that I am anti-corruption and I see it in every aspect of life. It infuriates me because I know that it is also in our very own government. What? Did you really believe that we are blind to this fact. We, unlike you, work in a realistic way to resolve these glitches in society. As Americans and as individually thinking and thriving human beings, we must realize that though corruption exists here, we would be naïve to think that it is not in every other government in existence. The only thing I have to compare your logic to is affirmative action. It is right in theory, but put into practice it does more harm than good. America is in no way perfect. We do not now, nor have we ever claimed to be so. However, we are not the ones constantly lying to the UN. We are not the ones who allow the vast majority of our citizens to live in squalor while our president pacifies himself by spending billions upon billions of dollars on his mansions and weapons of destruction. There will always be the group who feel the need to set themselves apart from the masses. They need this to feel as though they are individuals and single handedly fighting for the good cause. I am a leader. I would much rather lead than follow, yet, as I am forced to wait here so strongly filled with remorse that I cannot be standing beside my brothers and sisters as they face the struggles ahead, I resolve myself to maintain my beliefs. I want a peaceful resolution to this problem myself. Who doesn’t? I will not, however, stand against my brothers and sisters of the Marine Corps and
|
other armed forces. I will not now, nor
ever speak against my brothers and sisters in the Army, Air Force, Navy
or any other branch of the services when they are called to duty. Just
as in every other aspect of life, there are the corrupt and the wrong,
and the battle waged upon these evil men is to come; however, this is
not a battle of corruption against our government, it is a time for us
all to come together toward our common goal, which is the end of mass
terror in our nation and world. We must fight our battles in order of
importance and as they come. At this time, our main focus should be on
the impending doom that would be brought on a world of innocent people
by Saddam. Face the facts, if he weren’t doing wrong, he would have
nothing to hide and would be at least remotely compliant with the
requests of the world. He has no respect for life, and yet too many
people want to live in their childish fantasies of a world full of
unicorns and lollipops. Wake up! We don’t live in that world. And yet,
I am not even allowed to verbally paint upon your minds a picture
remotely close to the horror and deprivation I have seen of the people
that we, as Marines, have supported in their times of need simply
because too many people could not handle in words what I have seen face
to face. Go ahead and continue to take up arms against your nation
because you want a peaceful response. It’s sad to say, but you will
one day win. It is inevitable that one day you will get your wish and
America will have to sit on the sideline because of people who feel we
are the cause of the terror. Then you will see, though a Phyrric victory
is never what we want, that when the terror begins to reign down on you
like the fires of hell and perhaps you are forced to live under such a
man as Saddam, you will wish that you had not weakened America as you do
now. You have the upper hand, because no one can really prove you wrong
until we are all suffering from the destruction. You have more contempt
for the men who protect you than you do for a man who would mock your
painful deaths. In a conclusion to my ranting, I say thank you to the coalition forces who fight by our side to stop the terror that has plagued us for two decades. No doubt that I render my utmost respect to our own armed services, and to tell the world, that we on the bottom here put our full confidence in our president, our leaders and all of our fellow fighters of freedom in the heat of battle at this time.
