In the spring of 1998, the Gateway School District was notified that the Gateway Senior High School was selected by the U.S. Department of Education to receive its National Blue Ribbon School Award. This honor has been awarded to only 166 secondary schools throughout the nation. Blue Ribbon status is awarded to schools that demonstrate strong leadership; a clear vision and mission that are shared by all connected with the school; high quality teaching; challenging curriculum; policies and practices that ensure a safe environment conducive to learning; solid evidence that the school assists all students in achieving high standards; and a commitment to share practices with other schools. The award is vigorously sought by thousands of schools from all over the United States. |
