23/04/2004:

After a slight hiatus from the live scene, Accursed is set to return to the fray armed with some new songs which will cement the bands reputation as one of Melbourne's most brutal live acts. New materiel is slightly less thrash inflenced than the tracks on "weapon be thy Name", following an even more brutal and uncompromising aesthetic than before.

The first reviews of "Weapon be thy name" have started to trickle through, and they have been overwhelmingly positive. Below is one taken from Primal Agony Webzine:

Australia is certainly a haven for extreme metal bands and another up there amongst the most brutal has to be Melbourne five piece Accursed.
Having formed in early 2001 then went on and recorded a six track EP "lycanthropic hate majik". While I have never heard it there is no doubt judging by this their debut full length album it would be a brutal mix of intense and unrelenting death and black metal just like this.
They seem to have some sort of thought pattern with the lyrics generally taking on subjects of anti-humanity and the occult during the ten tracks. Actually it is only eight tracks if you exclude the intro and outro tracks which are nothing more than a sound effect.
After the opening intro you are thrown head first into a blitzing array of fast guitar and death metal growling vocals. However it is not just merely fast riffs for the sake of it as there is a lot of good variation between the fast and ultra heavy slower bits. More of the same greets you on the opening of "Draining The Black Grail". There is more melody to it this time and when they enter the doomy mid-section with black metal vocals it takes the song to a new but just as powerful intensity level.
Things go up another step on "Misfortunes Of Virtue" proving that only three songs in they are certainly not a one dimensional band and while they always retain the brutality they think it is important to have just as many hooks to a song as well. Also they seem to have a guitar tuning more in line associated with thrash metal for quite a few of the songs, and it sounds awesome.
I can't find a fault with this, from the excellent production to the strong display of writing and musical skills, Accursed have come up with another piece of metal magic.
Before looking overseas for some quality brutal and intense metal have a look in your own back yard as with what Accursed have displayed on every track on here us Aussies know how to crank out some of the best metal around.

24/01/04: "Weapon be thy name" was launched today here in Melbourne.

After the months of hard work and all the usual hassles that acompany the recording and release of an album, The band is highly satisfied with the result. "Weapon be thy name" comprises ten tracks of brutal blackened death metal showcasing Accursed's highly individual style, played with the agression and precicion those who have witnessed the many live onslaughts of late have come to expect.

The Album launch at the Arthouse was a resounding success. With support from some of the Melbourne death/black metal scenes most brutal acts, Abominator,Befallen and Embodied, more than 150 people turned out for one of the best lineups of recent times and a night of Alkoholik mayhem and debauchery.

"Weapon be thy name" was recorded at Studio 52, one of Melbourne's premier recording facilities, and shows the result of much care and attention in the form of a crisp but cutting and extremely heavy production. This was accentuated by the fine job of mastering the album from Adam at Dex audio.

The Album is now available from Iron Harvest Productions, P.O. Box 42 Mooney Vale, 3055 Vic (Australia) for $15 AUD/U.S
