Rounding the first leg of the famed Sullivan's Curve.

The straigtaway before the big Sullivan horseshoe. The beginning of the curve can be seen in the distance.

The first of the two short tunnels at Alray.

This is the area between the two tunnels. I had never seen it before until this cab ride.

Inside the second tunnel. So this is what they mean by "the light at the end..."

It had been raining earlier, but as we got to Summit, the clouds broke, making this dramatic scene. When I clicked this photo, the engineer remarked, "I think you just made the BNSF calendar." Well, not really, but it does look pretty neat.

The light played tricks on me the whole way, but it did make for some dramatic backgrounds. Here we are meeting another westbound at Hesperia.

Here we are approaching the lower Frost Flyover. This was built when Cajon was double tracked to restore right-hand running for eastbounds and get westbounds to run left-handed. The westbound track crosses over the eastbound track.

The "Mojave Narrows" is a short stretch of very tight track along the bank of the Mojave River. Usually dry, the river was raging this day due to heavy rains the night before, although it cannot be seen in the photo.

We meet the Victorville Turn led by 3 GP35's and a GP30 (trailing unit) as we pull into Victorville to pick up the kids at the Amtrak station. At this point, I left the cab and went back to the rear business car. The rest of the photos were taken from the rear platform.
