THE BOULEVARD

by Teresita Perez

Miles and miles of road...
One day I traveled it all,
driving for pleasure my car
down the busy boulevard.

Section of beaches and shops;
misery and fast food stops;
nightclub areas and ghettos;
luxury homes; open meadows;

Prostitutes' territories;
structures of countless stories;
private neighborhoods and parks;
poverty and old landmarks;

Office towers made of glass;
plastic decor; knobs of brass;
condemned dwellings and malls;
clean sidewalks; graffiti walls.

There shuffled were pain & glory
carving a happy/sad story.
Emotions stirred in confusion
building/destroying illusions.

Joy and sorrow on each side
I traveled the map of my life.
Until at last hope did come
for turning I headed home.

And home is resting in God
feeling happy or feeling sad.
He's my shelter during strife,
the Oasis of my life.
