THE BRIDAL PROMISE
by Teresita Perez
Two pillars. Two olive branches.
Two mountains of God that stand.
Two compartments of one temple.
Two trunks in one tree of life.
Two human beings, one flesh,
united till death do part.
Reflecting God's mercy: Woman.
Reflecting God's justice: Man.
But more than justice and mercy
is our God, Creator of
a man and woman as one
to reveal that God is Love.
Man's muscular, filled with vigor.
His endurance boosts his ego.
She's the petals of a rose.
Why the contrast, do you suppose?
Justice shelters mercy fragile.
Mercy softens justice's ire.
Justice helps her fight her fears.
Mercy pleads with him through tears.
He's the hero, strong, stands proud.
She's the star of their love story.
The perfect balance, no doubt.
Their mission: To give God glory.
Witness, creatures everywhere,
that an example they are
of another God-made pair:
of Jesuschrist and His bride.
Jesus loves His bride so dearly,
her every need satisfies.
Though Almighty, holds her gently,
treasures being by her side.
He will leave her for no other,
faithful Husband to his nest.
His voice, a soft-spoken lover
eager to give happiness.
Praise God! We are loved by Jesus,
our Friend, Who walks by our side.
In return, let's love His children,
serving those for whom He died.
So that if the Lord ever asks us,
"Do you represent me true?"
Echoing the bridal promise,
let each one answer: "I do."
