When I arrived on Thursday we had a nice meal and got rested for what
would be a nonstop tour of Texas. First stop was Kemah. We ate shrimp
from the Gulf of Mexico and walked along the boardwalk soaking in the hor Texas sun.
Houston Astros
"The stars at night are big and bright, down in the heart of Texas" The 40,000+ Texans and I raised our
voices to sing in the 7th inning stretch. The Astros won the game against the Cincinnati Reds
in their
own Minuet Maid Park, formally Enron Field.
2002 Enron Scandal
After the ballgame we visited the Enron headquarters downtown Houston. Enron was making headlines during this summer with the investigation of their company's financial records.
Date night
John bought tickets for us to see the Houston Symphony perform "A Night at the Oscars" at an outdoor Woodlands Pavilion. Good thing we had covered seats, it rained the entire show.
NASA
Monday we spent 6 hours touring Johnson Space Center where Nasa headquarters are located. "Houston, we have a problem." It was a wonderful, educational day. We saw many videos, live presentations, and a tour of the grounds. Here we are viewing a spaceship over a 1/4 of a mile long.
Ft. Worth
Next we visited Grams, Johns Grandmother in Ft. Worth, TX. She toured us around the Stockyards and took us too eat REAL Mexican food at Joe T Garcia's. It was a wonderful day trip.
Arlington
From Ft. Worth we drove to Dallas, the cities almost touch so the locals call this area the metroplex. On the way we stopped at Arlington, TX where the Rangers play.
Irving
Texas Stadium is in Irving, TX. Where the Dallas Cowboys home stadium is located. We took a guided tour of the field, stadium, and seating including the private box seats. We had a great time as the photos show. The photo of Texas Victory or death is painted outside of the vistor's locker room.
Dallas
A large tourist attraction in Dallas is the Old Book Depository where Oswald stood to shoot former President John F. Kennedy. An X on the street marks the place where he was killed. John and I pose here as the 2nd gun men on the grassy knoll.
GREAT TRIP
Another vacation come and gone. It was a wonderful trip meeting John's family. This sure did explain a lot about why he is so proud to be called a Texan.
