Several years ago while working in a nursing home, a woman who was 100 years old would often say that she didn’t know why the good Lord didn’t just take her, that her life no longer had a purpose. She was still in her right mind, but was in a wheelchair and hated feeling like she was a burden to others. But what I always observed every time I entered her room was that her well-worn Bible sat open on a table near to her and she would mention the Lord. So I responded to her that her life did still have purpose, because she could be a witness for the Lord, sharing her faith with all the nursing home workers and that who knew how great an impact she could have on them.
We all have our aches and pains, our frustrating limitations, our times of grieve and sadness. Life can be hard. But we still get up each day and with the Psalmist proclaim, “This is the day the Lord has made, let us be glad in it.” Live life while you’re living, grateful for another day.
