Many
bryozoan such as the tabulipora have both massive and
branching forms. The sturdy, massive forms were best
adaoted to live where water currents were strong and
could sweep sediments off the colony. The more delicate,
branching forms tended to live in more quiet areas where
their fragility would be less of a hazard and where
sediment in the water could fall between the branches
instead of piling up as it did on the massive colonies.
