Ticks
Ticks are the parasites with the bean shaped body about
the size of the flat head of a match. There are three types of ticks, the Wood
Tick, Brown Tick, and Deer Tick. Although they all suck blood, the Deer Tick is
the one to be wary about. If you ever see that your dog has a Deer Tick, take
him/her straight to the vet. It could transmit Rocky Mountain Fever or Lyme
Disease.
Ticks are most common in woodlands, and surprisingly, sandy
beaches and ocean resorts. The immature tick would be resting on a branch or a
shrub, but when it spots an animal, it jumps off and starts its feeding.
To get rid of tick from your dog's skin, rub alcohol in a
cotton ball on the tick to stun it and loosen its (head) grip, for the tick's
head may already be buried deep under the skin, and if the body is gone, but the
head is left in, it could cause infection. Do not use a match!
Next use tweezers or a tick picker to grasp the tick. Do it
close to the skin, and avoid squeezing the tick, for it could be diseased and
the fluids would mix with your dog's blood. Also, try to pull the head out with
the body. Put the tick in a pool (dish, cigar tray, small bag, etc..) of alcohol
to kill it, yet preserve its body, so you know if it was a Deer Tick.
If you're building is seriously infested with ticks, find
experienced people to apply a proper dilution, such as Lindane or Chlordane
(toxic) to the infested areas of the building.
