How long is a Corgi’s average life span?

14 to 16 years is a Corgi’s average life span.

How come Pembroke Welsh Corgis don’t have tails?

Pembroke Welsh Corgis don’t have tails because about 1000 years ago, Corgis were used as cattle herders. Because the farmer did not want the Corgi injured while doing his or her job, the farmer (or breeder) docked (took off) the Corgi’s tail at birth.

In the present time, it has become a custom to dock a PWC’s tail, even if the corgi is no longer used for herding. It has also become a requirement in the breed standard for the PWC to have his or her tail docked in order to compete in a dog show.

A common method in docking the tail is called rubber-band docking. The rubber band is tied around the puppies’ tail and the tail is said to shrivel and fall off within three to five days.  It has become less common to dock a Corgi’s tail because more often a Corgi is born without one.

How many puppies are born in a litter?

On average, six corgi puppies are born to a litter. Though for a corgi to have 10 puppies is not unheard of.

How hairy are Corgis?

Corgis are moderately hairy. They shed only twice annually, unlike some dogs, whose hair keeps having to be brushed everyday. Corgis require not trimming  and they only have to brushed once a week.
(note: this does not include fluffies. Fluffies would need to be brushed more often, for they have a thicker, fluffier coat that sheds more often.)

What would I need to professionally groom my, or someone else's dog?

To groom a dog, you would need the following equipment:

How much does an average Corgi cost?

If you wish to buy a Corgi from a professional breeder, the cost of the Corgi could range from one hundred to one thousand dollars, depending on how well bred it is and the amounts of awards it has won. If you are planning to buy a Corgi just as a pet, the recommended price range would be from one hundred to five hundred dollars.  (Rugby was three hundred.) Though please check out the pound before you go to a breeder.
(Note: Prices may increase due to inflation)

How can you find out if the Corgi puppy you choose to buy is healthy and right for you?

If you plan to buy a Corgi puppy from a reputable breeder,  the breeder will tell you it's health condition and general behavior. Though most likely, if they own a sick puppy, they wouldn't sell it to you.
If gotten from the pound, since a lot of times the people at the pound don't know the animal's condition, you will probably have to take the Corgi to the vet.
If you feel you can handle the Corgi's  health condition and behavioral patterns, than the Corgi puppy is right for you.    Though for the inexperienced Corgi owner, I would recommend buying an older one first.

Are you better off going to the pound to buy a Corgi or going to the breeder?

If you are planning on using your Corgi in a dog show, then it is recommended to buy your Corgi from a breeder, since their goal is to breed to perfection.  Though if you just want a Corgi as a pet, it would be recommended to buy from the pound, for it would be inexpensive, and most of all,  you would be saving a life.

Is it O.K for a 1 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi to weigh 21 pounds?

Once a PWC has reached one year of age, the Corgi has pretty much grown to its full size and body weight, so it would be classified as an adolescent. Although determining the right weight of the Corgi has a lot to do with gender. According to the AKC, a bitch should weigh approximately 25 pounds and a male should weigh approximately 27 pounds. More or less a 21 pound Corgi would be slightly underweight in either gender, depending on his/her  size.  Though since it is only one year old, the Corgi might still gain a few more pounds. (Note: A slightly underweight Corgi is always better than a slightly overweight Corgi.)  So, with the information given, I would conclude that it is safe for a one year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi to weigh 21 pounds. But should the Corgi remain that weight by two years of age, it would be best to feed the Corgi a little more food (one meal a day).
