From the hatching:

Another of Caileath's large eggs hatched into a pale brown dragon, but when he opened his wings from the egg they were shades of blue! Even his neck ridge was blue. With a proud look on her face, the dragoness above crooned for him to bond well. Nearby, another of Aliksi's small eggs burst open with a violent shattering. The dark red dragon who came from it was clearly one of Porth's sharp offspring.

The two dragons came near one another, but then veered away to find their bonds among the candidates. The brown and blue dragon nosed toward a girl whose instincts told her this was the time to move forward. A flitter rested on her shoulder and another swooped around her body to come to rest on her arm. They chittered at the brown and blue dragon, who made his way in their direction.

You must tell me all about how you got here, Jilsea, bespoke the dragon, his voice was a mixture of wind and wave, powerful yet delightful.

"I will, Floteth!" Jilsea smiled, wishing that she knew how to explain anything – her brother was so much better at it...

Floteth

Jilsea sighed, stretching her arms about her head as Floteth hummed an annoying little hum. "C'mon, I need another bath," he announced, lowering himself so as to make mounting easier. Jilsea rolled her eyes at the large beast, not sure where to be irritated or amused by her lifemate's constant love of the water, as his name suggested. To be entirely honest, she'd had time, over the past four years, to study languages, and had discovered that a break-down of his name was similar to a Creole word for wave, so it wasn't surprising that he was so fascinated with water.

"What are you waiting for?? A gather or something??" he asked his nineteen-turned bond, rolling his eyes as she mounted him. She pushed her long, wavy brown hair over her shoulders, her eyes twinkling as they rose into the skies of Opal Moon, heading towards the large lake, if it could really be called that. They'd found Opal Moon a year ago, apparently, it hadn't been there long, though, for when they'd arrived, it appeared as though things were still being settled, though for the most part, they were. She loved the skies there, the way the waters sparkled when the sunlight brushed their surfaces.

As the two descended, Jilsea grinned, waving to her brother, I'mar. Only recently had he arrived at the Weyr, having been told of it by the heads of Falas Weyr's Genetic Program center. The Weyrwoman and Weyrleader were looking for people to help flesh out their ranks, those of able body and strong minds, who were able to accept differences. At first, Jilsea hadn't been able to see why that was important... after all, what was the big deal?? So people weren't normal... they weren't normal. However, excluding Shard, the blue-furred man who had searched her, she had never met anyone abnormal. However, before she'd impressed, she'd learned of several different races of people, as the Nexus attracted all kinds.

Her last guess had been that the Weyrwoman of Opal Moon would be a shapeshifter... that was at the very least strange. Nevertheless, as the year had gone by, she'd gotten on good accord with the Weyrwoman, being promoted to the head of the Los Luces Bajas for her demonstration of responsibility and conduct. Four years had matured her, changing her from the curious sixteen-turned young woman to one of nineteen, nearly twenty turns, who was not only responsible and courteous, but also somewhat of a listener, who found that, now having a constant companion, she didn't need to explore as often as she had, and her ability to focus on the task at hand was somewhat easier now.

"Hey, where's the twins??" her brother asked as the twin alighted on the water, splashing up water in a wave that had given Floteth his name. "They're-" she stopped as the gold and brown flits popped in from between, Latice immediately taking up her permanent residence on Jilsea's neck. Enol flitted around, creening playfully. The morning was filled with laughter as many of the dragons and their riders flew to the lake for baths, or simply to take the edge off the already warm day.

The Weyrwoman sent a message for Jilsea to got to Ryslen, to see if there were any possibilities for their wings there. Sighing, the woman and her dragon left the water to oblige their leader. It wasn't long before they were in the air again, heading for one of the oldest Weyrs in existence that was still called a Weyr. The Weyrleader had pulled Jilsea aside, instructing her to, instead of simply visiting the Weyr, to go a little ways into the future, as he had a hunch she'd find whatever it was she was going to look for.

Do you think it's a little strange that the Weyrleader would say what he did?? Jilsea mused as the two came out from between into a future Ryslen. Floteth rumbled beneath her, When is it that things aren't a little bit odd at Opal Moon?? Tell me that. If I didn't know any better... he paused as he looked around. Things looked different her, which caused him to stop. I know we've been here before, but I certainly don't recognize all all the dragons hovering here. In fact, if I wasn't so sure that we'd been here only a year ago, I'd say that... The sight of the Weyrwoman Jeyann stopped him, as she passed, seemingly without noticing them, into another part of the large Weyr.

"She's older, she's going to be. What's the problem??" Jilsea inquired, shaking her head at her bondmate. However, at the sight of dragons, weyrlings, not adults, baring the snowflakes reminiscent of the Flurry hatching she'd heard about while at the Nexus, she had to stop, for she knew that by then, the dragons had fully grown. "You're right... have we perhaps come too far into the future??" Motioning for Floteth to land, she dismounted, placing a hand on his side as she spoke. "I'll be right back, go mingle, find out how far into the future we are if you can. How many hatchings have occurred, how many flights..." she stopped as she realized that she'd lost his attention.

Following his line of vision, she spotted a strange dragon, white with what appeared to be silky, silvery-blue fur round her neck, and covering her tail. "Uhh... Floteth... is her rider male by any chance??" Something about that dragoness screamed ‘female rider', and Jilsea didn't like the idea of that whatsoever. The dragon dreamily told her no, causing her to burst with anger. "No?? No?!?! Floteth, you wherry brain, what makes you think I'm going to let you enter a flight where the rider is female?? I've got news for you, I'm not like that, I prefer, no, I demand men, not women.

So much for having matured, the blue-winged brown muttered. I thought we'd been over this. Besides, would it be so bad?? The glaring look replied quite sufficiently, and the dragon sighed. Fine, would you have a problem getting to know some of the males around here?? I'm sure there's one that would be more than happy tooblige you. And if you weren't so pig-headed about this, you'd see that it wasn't so bad... whether or not you claim to only like men. Jilsea gritted her teeth together as the dragon began to moon over the strange dragoness again.

"We'll meet them, alright?? For your sake. But, I'm telling you, if something happens, and by some odd chance you win this flight, and there's not sufficient partners for the both of us, mark my words, your life afterwards may as well be forfeit... so enjoy the flight if the circumstances don't work out." Together, the two went to meet this dragoness's rider, who they later learned to be called Darapti.
