Face The Fear

© 2001 Elizabeth Marquez

v1
The signs were always there
But others couldn't read them clear
He hid his pain behind a mask
While alcohol and pills pulled him near

C
"Don’t let sorrow take you down, try to face the fear"
"Don’t do it, there's something better here"
“Give yourself tomorrow, the clouds will disappear”
"Please don't do it", he heard through tears

V2
He gave it a lot of thought
Death seemed his only reprieve
He cried inside as he swallowed
Was the only way the pain would leave

C
"Don’t let sorrow take you down, try to face the fear"
"Don’t do it, there's something better here"
“Give yourself tomorrow, the clouds will disappear”
"Please don't do it", he heard through tears

V3
The alcohol was weak
And the pills had long expired
His road back was a long one
In the process he became inspired

B
It doesn't matter what kept him from leaving
He's here today, alive and breathing
He found the strength imprisoned within
Touching souls with the stroke of his pen

C2/T
He didn't appease his sorrows; instead he faced his fear
He realizes now, there's something better here
He knows his plan; it all seems so clear
He's glad to be alive smiling through tears
