I carry a deep dark secret
One that I’ve never told
Painfully it seeps to the surface
And tries it’s best to take hold
There are days I feel like giving up
Cause there’s nothing more I can do
But I still find reasons to keep the shame
From breaking me in two

I let him see there’s more to life

I still can’t believe someone could take
The fragile heart of an innocent child
Leaving hatred for life in its place
But even when weariness assaults me
I know his days of hurting are done
He took that bait not knowing
My battles would now be won
