While there is not much bad to say about this episode, well...there isn't lots and lots of good to say about it either. It wasn't a masterpiece, and it was by moments, well...let's put it this way, redondant, but it had its moments. Nonetheless, it was a truly nice episode.
I don't get why the witch was in the mirror. It was just so they could introduce the bad of the week, because, if I know my fairytales right, the witch never enters the miror. Anyway. I can get past that, minor detail.
Piper reading fairytales to her unborn child. That was cute, a good introduction to the theme. Phoebe getting freaky about Cole...Like he would hurt her anyway. This would really be the best way to win her back (And one good thinking card for Paige). Then Paige, hanging around, talking about potion...Noticed the bouncing to wanting to be a cool witch and not wanting to be a witch that was in season four? Looks like she settled for freaking obsessed witch. It's all she thinks about, and now that she's not a social worker anymore, she might open a private wicca cabinet.
I absolutly hate Phoebe's prince charming. Right from the moment I saw him in screen caps this summer, I knew I would hate his character. Hottie, check. Nice, check. Perfect, check. Charming, check. Must be a demon. I mean, right from the start, you had Jeremy (Piper's boyfriend in the first episode, he answered all those criteria and it was the first weirlock they vanquished) and it has applied to almost every demon, especially Cole.
Grams...okay, other than being used in the Little Red Riding Hood tale...I didn't really see the necessity of her in the story. And the baby is weeks old, she couldn't be powerful enough to bring Grams back in a body, and well, I doubt she'd even have a clue of what is going on down there. That's gonna be one hell of a baby. Destroy all evil at the snap of a finger.
Bad witch want to be the strongest witch, has to kill the Charmed Ones, sends Wood Man (actually, more like a butcher), doesn't succeed. She decides to go another way.
Then, a little bit of humor with Phoebe's feet controlling her, a little drama with Paige not accepting to call Grams, Grams, because she had one that she loved (hey, she had a mother that she loved and that didn't keep her from calling Patricia mom). How stupid was eating that apple anyway. I mean, would you eat an apple that's all glowing, and I'm not talking shiny tasty brillance, I'm meaning like red stop light !?
Wolf effect on the wall. First, yuck! Did I see pieces of Grams flowing around. Second, I'm rolling on the floor laughing. What has happened to the effect budget? Did it get cut cause they needed money to pay for the actresses? Anyway, it's still better than a lot of effects we see in t.v. shows, but that is something that was lost through the seasons. My favorite one was the third, because the effects were cool, the storylines were mostly brilliant, and I think that since this season, Charmed has lost a bit of it's magic. It is still one of the coolest shows around, but it has suffered from Shannen Doherty's depart (not necessarily in the acting department, cause I really like Rose), but because the writers had to rebuild another background, new relationships, and I think that at some point, they became just so caught up in that circle that they continued to go around and we truly miss the more developped story lines.
The dwarves. I think they were the funniest part of the show, with that line that truly made me laugh (one of the few times in this episode) "Anyone ate a poisoned apple here?". That was catchy and just plain funny, keep that, we want more of that.
Okay, then you have Piper getting eaten by the wolf (she's blabbling about the girl in the story being stupid not to notice and she's even more clueless. She's a freaking witch and she knew the damn story, take a clue. I know this was meant to be funny, but it just freaks me out. Piper's usually the brightest one.)
Then she blows him open, goes into the book, kills the bad of the week, frees the apprentice, comes back.
OH! Second funny line! Cole, "Hands off my pumpkin.".
I hate the final scenes so much. I agree, Cole and Phoebe need to rebuilt their trust, but I hate the prince charming so much, I don't get how Phoebe can like him. I don't want her to fall in love with him and have a love triangle going around for all season (am I hearing the theme of Dawson's Creek?). I want them having to deal with their problems, not going around their problems while getting into relationships.
I am sorry if my reviews have been kinda...well, really not positive for the last two episodes, but I would only qualify them "alright", because as for now, the story lines haven't been surprising nor new nor well...really interesting. Siren Song looks a bit better, but in two weeks, don't miss the adventures of superwitches in tights
