Swirling, flowing, all around me,
Like a velvet curtain,
You spread yourself.
Opening, to show the brilliant daylight,
That warms me,
And raises my spirits.
But only ‘till dusk,
And then night comes.
It too a curtain –
Of darkness!
Black, and bleak, and cold
No light to see.
Many a lonely eve
I have spent,
Waiting for you to expose the light.
Some days you don’t come at all,
You just keep yourself drawn shut.
So I sit, and wait,
And shiver.
