Episode 75

LONG LIVE THE GOVERNOR

(Sergeant Garcia is preparing the library for the Governor. Included in the things the Sergeant has brought in is a music box that the Governor uses to go to sleep. "He goes to sleep to music?" asks Diego. Garcia starts the box, at which point Corporal Reyes goes to sleep.)

I like this episode not for the fickle Leonar and her unfathomable treatment of Diego, but because of it. He is not rattled and stays focused on the issues at hand. And those issues are to protect the governor and discredit Capitan Arrellanos. The music box plot device is wonderful and gives Bernardo some secrets that even Zorro cannot fathom. I also like how Diego has figured out how Arrellanos is operating and lets himself be "lured" away from the hacienda.

The dialog exchange between Diego and the Capitan on their way to get the wild rice is full of double meaning. Then of course there is The Shrug and, IMHO, the best choreographed duel in the entire season. It starts out with Zorro smiling and having fun, but it ends deadly serious, and in between Guy is all grace and energy.
