Ramon Castillo and El Cuchillo

In the anthology episodes, we see our hero come up against two of his most formidable challenges - Cuchillo and Ramon Castillo. They are formidable not because they are especially wicked or dangerous, but rather because both are charming and very, very smart. Rather than dull, plodding criminals like Paco in the Monterey episodes who can think of nothing more original than kidnapping, both Cuchillo and Ramon devise clever plans to get what they want. They also both figure out rather quickly that Diego de la Vega is Zorro!

Part of the reason I enjoy the anthologies so much is that both Diego and Zorro face adversaries worthy of their best efforts. These are bad guys with charm and flair and most of all intelligence. No ordinary criminals, Cuchillo and Ramon Castillo lead our hero on some of his most challenging and exciting adventures. And then, as if Zorro chasing and defeating them before they conclude their dastardly deeds is not enough, Diego must also walk more cautiously because both men are quick enough to ferret out the truth about the man behind the mask of Zorro.
