(2) Do not respond to email, SMS/text message, internet messages, etcetera that claim that the company needs your credit card information because "your account is going to be closed." Do not click on the email link, do not fill in an email form. If in doubt go directly to the site in question, and contact their costumer service or billing section.

(3) Always keep your programs updated! For example if you go onto the internet once every week, update Spybot, SpywareBlaster, antivirus software, and check for Windows Updates (click on "start" button and click on "Windows Updates"). If the updates are large (as with Windows Update) then you may have to download it in pieces. Keeping the programs updated allows them to protect your system better.

(4) Now that you have them updated, use them once a week to scan your computer for a virus or spyware/adware. It ensures that your computer will be protected.

(5) You should NEVER be asked to give ANY sensitive information through insecure means such as:

giving (a) credit card number, bank card numbers, Personal Identification Number (PIN) (b) passwords, (c) Social Security Numbers, etc through insecure sites, email, instant messenger (IM). If you receive an email from a company that requests any information always be doubtful, do not click on a link. Directly contact them to see if the email is true.

(6) Change your password every three to six months. Use letters, and number combination, and words that are not in the dictionary. Do not use your birthday, SSN, first/last name, pet name, etc as your password!
