Types of Dachshunds
Smooth-Haired Dachshund
The Smooth-haired Dachshund is a cross between the German Shorthaired Pinscher, and the Bracke. It is considered to be the first type of Dachshund. Peanut is this type of dachshund.
Wire-Haired Dachshund
The Wirehaired Dachshund is a cross between the Smooth-haired Dachshund the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and the German Wirehaired Pinscher. This type of dachshund requires maintence in the sense that it must be plucked by a professional groomer every few months. The owner can do the plucking however, I would find it traumatizing.
Long-Haired Dachshund
The Long-haired Dachshund is a cross between all the small dog breeds in the spaniel group, the German Stoberhund, and the Smooth-haired Dachshund. These dogs are high maintence because they must be brushed every day and sent to a professional groomer every month or so.
