Sora couldn’t believe how much Taichi was actually caring about Yamato. She fiddled with the straps on her hat awhile. She felt a slight pang of jealousy; Taichi kept talking about Yamato and barely paid attention to her anymore. ‘He’s supposed to be my best friend! Not Yamato’s! Oh, maybe this is all pretense. I mean, in the end, Taichi would say he loves me...he’s not gay!’, she thought.
She felt a hand on her shoulder, “Sora? Are you alright? You’ve been spending a lot of time by yourself lately...”
“Mimi? Oh, I’m alright, I just--”, she started.
“Miss Yamato? I know, I think we all do. Takeru too”, Mimi pushed in.
“Oh...uh...yeah that’s it”, she said.
Sora took a deep breath, “Mimi, have you ever dreamed about something so bad, but it never comes true?”
Mimi sighed, “All the time”, and sat a little closer to Sora.
She looked at the younger girl and smiled, “At least I’m not the only one”, Sora stood up and slowly walked back to the others.
“Ai shiteru”, Mimi said in barely a whisper.

“Takeru, did you hear anything weird last night?”, Yamato asked, trying to sound nonchalant, but it obviously not working.
“Uh, no. I was real tired last night and I--”
“Takeru, are you lying to me?”, Yamato pressed.
“No niisan, I would never!”, the little boy answered.
Yamato didn’t respond, he was just relieved that Takeru didn’t suspect anything. how embarrassed he would’ve been if Takeru had heard him moaning in his sleep! But it was alright now, he kept telling himself.
Later that afternoon, he went out walking. Takeru had stayed behind to play with Patamon, and he relished this time alone. The sun was hot and it beat down savagely on his bare chest. He rolled up his pant legs below his knee, for a little more air. He didn’t care about the sun anymore, and hot hot it was. It was irrelevant in his life, a part of the master scheme he couldn’t change.
Yamato felt so tiny out there, so interchangeable. Fate had destined him here, and he didn’t feel like getting in the way of that. he let the sun burn his skin, let the wind whip his face, let the hot air sting his body, and he embraced it all. He was just a pawn, a small, lonely, loveless pawn...
----------------------------------
“Tai-kun, I’m not going to wait around forever for you to play ponies with me!”, the aforementioned boy turned to see young Hikari standing behind him, her hands on her hips.
“I’m not really...in the mood to play games, alright?”, Taichi answered.
Hikari “hmph”-ed, but shrugged and walked off.
‘Boy, Sora and Mimi sure have been spending alot of time with each other lately. I remember when she used to some to me to talk about things. But I guess girls need to talk about...girl stuff’, Taichi thought, half-smiling to himself.
He remembered how Yamato and him used to talk like that, staying up half the night, under the watchful moon. It was the only time they could really peer into each others souls, when they beared their pure beings to each other. Now Taichi wondered if Yamato still stayed up those lonely nights and thought about him; Taichi sure as hell did.
---------------------------------
The omnipresent feeling of night showed up, as usual. It brought with it all of it’s constellations and planets, still in rotation of the shadowed sun, hidden from knowing on the other side of the strange world they were in.
Sora slept with the utmost of dignity, like a goddess ruling over her dreams. Her eyelids softly touched each other, sweetly, as if it were a sin for them to be together. Her body curled together, an invisible glowing aura about her, protecting her in the vulnerability of sleep.
Mimi crawled slowly to Sora’s resting self; gingerly, softly. Her long hair whipped itself about her face as she looked down upon Sora, her peaceful, serene body. Mimi lifted up her hand, maybe to touch Sora’s chest, or brush it down her thigh, but she thought better of it. Besides, there were a few things on her mind.
“Sora...Sora my bishoujo. Why oh why won’t you just forget about Taichi? He could never give you what I would. I believe I love you more than he could. Oh...but this must remain a secret, you can never know, Taichi could never know. This is between me and the part of you that exists only in my mind, the Sora who loves me back, who kisses me, and holds me, and runs her fingers over my body. I wish you could meet that Sora...I wish you could become her”, the tears began to roll down Mimi’s cheeks now as she quietly spoke, “You are my angel, Sora-chan, my angel waiting on the pier...and when the first boat comes in, it’ll be me. I wish you could know that...”, Mimi laid her head in her hands, “Sayonara Sora-chan...sayonara...”
The planets still turned, held on their own by their axis’, and the stars still danced, and the moon still cast strained light on the world below, on a young girl crying her eyes out over the love she could not attain.
