So here's a break down of the very main characters. There are many more, so many I didn't put them all:)
Akane Tendo
The main female character, Akane finds herself engaged to Ranma when he and his father show up on their door step. Not thrilled at first, akane pummels Ranama a handful of times in the first episode alone. She's a wanna be martial arts expert, even though she does have some skills and actually finds that she does care for Ranma even though she won't admit it. Oh and did I mention that her cooking could kill ya?
Ranma Saotome
Ranma is guy with a terrible problem! whenever he gets splashed with cold water he turns into a girl! On a training trip with his father in china the come across the cursed Jusencyo springs. Each falling in a cursed spring they each take on their new form. Ranma's only problem isn't just suddenly finding himself engaged to akane.He has all sorts of people who want to get back at him for different reasons and he's still trying to figure out how to get back to normal? As they say "Whats a half guy half girl to do?" Ranma is on his way to being a martial arts expert and seems to take joy in taunting Akane. He actually really cares for her and usually show's it after he stops being a dolt. He's usually trying to prove his manhood in some obscure way as well but hey being a guy in his position who could blame him?
Ryoga Habiki
aka P-Chan! This poor eternal lost boy made the mistake of fallowing Ranma to jusencyo after he thought he welched on a date they set to fight. Ryoga actually just got lost and Ranma waited for him for three days. When he sets out to find Ranma, Ryoga finds himself yet again lost. He finally does get to his destination only to discover he can't defeat Ranma. So he sticks around an settles for being akane's pet pig with hope's of still one day defeating Ranma. the nicest perk is Akane doesn't know his little secret so he torments Ranma with sneeking into her bed everynight

Gennma Saotome
Ranma's father and the guy Ranma blames for his misfortune. Gennma turns into a giant panda and uses signs to communicate. Living at the Tendo's to avoid what his wife would make him to if she found out(eww! It was nasty so I won't get into it!) he finds himself often on the reciving end of her patting him on the head and feeding him a bowl of Akan's slop when she comes for a visit.
Soun Tendo
Akane's father.He trained with Gennma and they shared the same master in their youth. This poor guy often complains of three unwed daughters and two freeloading house guests and no regular income. He's extreamly dramatic and always blows everything out of proportion.
Nabiki Tendo
Akane's sister, Nabiki is always sceeming something to make money or just cause havoc. She secreatly has a crush on Kuno.
Kasumi Tendo
Kasumi is gentle mannered and has devoted herslef to taking care of the family since their mother died. When Kasumi is possesed by an evil ogre Soun won't even allow anyone to strike her to get it out. The ogre, supposedly brings out the worst evil in a person and Kasumi's evilest deed is thumb tacks in the sheets. She's also the future Mrs. Tofu.
Dr. Tofu
Local Dr. that the Tendo's have know along time. Akane had a crush on him but eventually gives up when she finally realized that he's in love with Kasumi(but doesn't have the gut's to yet admit it)
Happosi
Soun and Gennma's master, He's an evil little man who enjoy's stealing womens undergarments and being a peeping tom. Happosi is usually terrorising some girls at a bath house or anywhere he can find them. He's very powerful and Gennma and soun even fear him even though Ranma doesn't
Tatewaki Kuno
Furnikan Hights Martial Arts champion. Kuno is in love with both akane and the pigtailed girl(Ranma) He lusts after both of them and usually winds up in some hairy situation(ie: Stuck with a giant bird on his head, getting everyone stranded on an island, etc..)Kuno doesn't know about Nabiki's feelings for him but who knows what may happen in the future.
Kodachi Kuno
Kuno's sister, she's the star of the rhythemic gymnastics club at her hight school. Dubbing herself the Black Rose, Kodachi often posions peoples food with sleeping powder or does whatever it takes to get time with her darling Ranam. she has a wicked kackle that can go right through you after a time too.

Shampoo
A chinease amazon whom wants to kill girl type Ranma but is in love with boy type! When hergreat grandma gives her a reversal jewel that makes all your feelings the opposite she almost gets Ranma to admit he loves her(even though he doesn't, it was only a pride thing) Their relationship started when Ranma traveled through her village and insulted her by beating her at a town competition for a supply of food(which Ranma had already eaten!) Shampoo follows Ranma to tokyo and works to get him to leave akane and marry her.she own's a restaurant, which she runs with her grandmother and another whom works for her named mousse.
Mousse
Shampoos' loyal followers and also one of the cursed. When splashed with cold water this totally blind boy turns into a duck. He's gladly die for shampoo even though she has no interest in him. Usually he thinks he's rescued her after they have a mishap but he's so blind he usually has someone else or something else!
Ukyo
Another Ranma's groupies, Ukyo was promised as a child to Ranma by his own father when actually swindling Ukyo's own guardian out of his cart. Ukyo goes after Ranma in Tokyo as well only to find she cares for him. so she stayes as well with the same mission as Shampoo. She owns an ukynomiaki (japanese pizza) restaurant and weilds a big metal spatula as a wepon.
