Unrequited Love

.

.

"It's hopeless, isn't it?" My question is directed at no one in particular. "He'll never love me." I know he doesn't have any feelings for me. To him, we're nothing more than friends. If that.

I sigh, burying my face in my hands. It's not enough that I'm one of the most powerful youkai in all the three worlds. That I rule one-third of the Makai. No, my power doesn't impress him. In fact, it seems he's taken a lover. Mukuro's pet fire demon, no less! His power is nothing compared to mine. He's less experienced than me. And yet I'm the one sitting here, my heart heavy with grief.

It isn't enough that I'm powerful.

Nothing is enough.

I guess I can't really blame him. I wasn't the nicest person at the Makai Tournament, and he was probably having a rough time, all things considered. But surely he'd be willing to give me another chance. After all, I wasn't having the best of times.

If I wasn't such a coward, I could apologize to him. I could tell him how sorry I am for being such an ass, and how much I love him. And he would chuckle warmly, and give that beautiful smile of his, the one that lights up his entire face. He would say to me: "Yomi, I understand. And.. I think I love you, too."

"What about Hiei?" I would ask.

"Forget about Hiei." he would reply, wrapping his arms around me. I would put my arms around him, and he would snuggle into my embrace. "He was just a way to pass time. The one I really wanted was you."

But... no. I know this will never happen. You may not believe this, but he isn't into casual relationships. If it isn't serious, then it isn't happening.

Damnit all, if only he knew how serious I was!

A gentle breeze caresses my face, and I can almost believe he's here next to me, waiting for me to reveal my true feelings.

"Ai shiteru...Yusuke..."
