ANLEO CATTERY

The history of Anleo Cattery
As long as I can remember I had cats. About 10 years ago I bought my first registered siamese. I started to show her, and as most breeders will know, it does not end there. Not having my own place to live, was not the way to run a cattery, and I lost three cats in a row due to unnatural causes. I never had one litter in 3 years. Then I met Eben, got married and at last I had a proper place for my cattery. For several years siamese was the one and only breed for me, until I once saw a Sphynx at a show. I was hooked on this cat, and could not stop looking at him. I contacted a breeder, but she was not willing to export to South-Africa, and the cats were so expensive that I put the idea beside for a couple of years. But then we went to Canada. First thing I did was to get a cat magazine and find breeders. I found a not-too-expensive breeding pair, and imported these two cats via Canada with great effort to South-Africa. (Today I still own the female, but the male was not a good breeding cat, so he is neutered and placed.) At last I was a Sphynx breeder, an suddenly the Sphynx world opened up for me. I was fortunate to get exceptionally good natured, wonderful show quality cats, with well known, diverse blood lines. I imported a male from the Netherlands, and a male and three females from the USA (not all at once though!)
And the siamese?
After the neighbours complained about my siamese stud, I had to find a new home for him. I also placed a spayed siamese female. A while ago I lost my dearest siamese female due to birth problems. I still had Jasmine though, and just could not get it over my heart to place her, because of her sweet nature. But, because of the distance of other studs, it is very difficult to breed with her. Just as I decided to get her spayed too, I read an article in the PSA Journal about Peterbalds. Jasmine has just the correct Peterbald type, so I contacted breeders, and decided to import a Peterbald male that I can use with her. But it did not stay at one, and today I own three Peterbalds, two females, and a male.

Why do I breed cats?
Nothing gives me more pleasure to see how much joy these naughty, wrinkled bundles of love bring into the lifes of their new owners. And that is the main reason why I breed these funny little creatures: for bringing joy to many fortunate South-Africans. Therefore I prefer to sell my cats as companion animals. Therefore, also my main breeding policy is: health, then temperament and then show quality. Ask any Sphynx owner - at the end they want yet another Sphynx, not because of the cat's looks (that attracted them at first), but because of that extraordinary nature!
