The Sorcerer Hunters

This is one anime that’s more for, um, an older audience. Sure enough, the recommended age listed is 15 and up. There’s a reason for that: this entire anime is pretty much obsessed with sex, with sexual subjects being the second main concept besides taking down sorcerers and magic. Take the main character, Carrot Glace, for example. He’s constantly trying to feed this immense sex drive he has by hitting on every young, pretty girl he sees-hoping she’ll take him up on his sexual proposition. Unfortunately for Carrot, however, nearly all of the women he flirts with and chases want nothing to do with him. Is it because he is too straightforward? Is it because the women think he’s not that attractive? Or is he just really rude? Each woman has her own reasons.

Yet there are two women very close to Carrot that would gladly get down and dirty with him right there. They are the two famed sisters, Chocolate and Tira Misu. And yes, a lot of the people in this anime are named after desserts. For some reason, Carrot doesn’t want either of the Misu sisters, even though they are both beautiful and shapely. The Misu sisters are kind and nice, usually. Note the word usually. For when Carrot starts bestowing his not-too-charming affections on some poor girl, the sisters strip from their usual clothing and change into their alter egos-pissed women with whips to force Carrot to stop. Carrot really hates it when this happens, mostly because it hurts like #$%^, and also because he can’t keep chasing girls when the two sisters are beating up on him. The only other time that the sisters break out into their alter ego, dominatrix forms is when they are fighting a sorcerer. Carrot is seemingly useless in battle, but when magic hits him, he absorbs it, causing him to grow into an enormous, dark horned beast. His beast form is very strong, and usually helps when defeating an evil sorcerer. Then it is up to Tira, the girl who is generally quiet and more reserved than Chocolate, to “whip Carrot back into shape.” Her whipping and “ohohohohoho” laughter is pretty funny to experience, and as always slowly Carrot dissolves back into his human form.

The Misu sisters look very much alike, but Chocolate is red-haired and Tira has pink hair. Tira is subtler about her undying love for Carrot, but Chocolate throws herself at Carrot constantly. Chocolate even has a nickname for Carrot, that she always uses- “darling.” Has she ever called Carrot by his real name, and not, “my darling”? In the manga Chocolate was very scantily clad, with only suspenders over her breasts, and in the anime, her outfit is added to a bit: she wears a small biker vest-like top instead. Yet in the OVAs, her nearly topless look returns to the screen. Tira’s outfit changed somewhat too, but hers changed more in color than in overall style. Tira is usually seen wearing a red cloak with large round glasses, which will instantly be thrown off if she catches Carrot flirting with other women. Both the sisters knew Carrot from when they were small, and each has her own fantasies about her future with him.

It doesn’t end with the Misu sisters as the only other members of the Sorcerer Hunters. Tagging along you have the dark and quiet brother of Carrot, the effeminate Marron Glace; as well as a huge, muscular blond named Gateau Mocha. Marron is a strong magic user, and is skilled in the Eastern type. In the anime he is often seen flicking wards called ofuda at the enemies, which cause them to fall over or become paralyzed. Marron is actually the younger brother of Carrot, and this seems quite ironic, because he is the maturer of the two. Marron inherited his incredibly bishounen looks from his mother, Apricot, whom he looks the spitting image of. Many admire him for his lovely looks, including Gateau, who appreciates anything beautiful. Gateau sometimes hits on Marron, telling him that he’s beautiful, posing for him, and hinting questions concerning if Marron would sleep with him. Marron doesn’t do anything about these little gestures, however, but Gateau never completely gives up. Marron seems not to have any sexual orientation, for he does not seem to show interest in either sex. Maybe he is just a lot subtler about it than anyone else around him, so it is obliterated. No one knows. Gateau, on the other hand, shows interest in women (like Tira, for instance) and men (Marron), if they are beautiful. Gateau is quite the vain one, and is always glad to strip off his clothing to pose for someone-for he does have quite a bit of well-defined muscles. Despite the stereotype, Gateau isn’t all brawn-he is somewhat smart, too.

This zany bunch combined are the Sorcerer Hunters. The Sorcerer Hunters’ mission is to track down and rid the world of the evil oppressing Sorcerers that make the lives of regular people miserable by the use of their magic. Big Mama, the Sorcerer Hunter’s boss, sends the Hunters their missions and directs them where to go. This sometimes annoys Carrot, because he is usually right in the middle of a girl-chasing ordeal. The Hunters’ main enemy is the evil Zaha Torte, who is also the arch nemesis of Big Mama. Overall, the Sorcerer Hunters is a pretty funny anime to watch. It is not recommended for a six-year old, however. Yet if you are old enough and you enjoy a magical comedy with some sexual innuendo here and there, here’s your ticket.
