Based on an amalgam of different Japanese legends
and folklore, the story of Dancing Blade deals with
Momo, a young girl who searches for the reason why
she was born from a peach. Momo was brought up in a
temple where she met the Player(the character's real
name is never really given, but he's the one you
play the game through) when she was young. She
encountered the armored giant, Sarukichi, while she
was guarding the temple. Later, Momo and her two male
friends set out to find the meaning to Momo's strange
origin. Along the way they meet a poor homeless girl
named Oinu who happens to be a great healer and
spiritualist. She joins them on their journey. Later,
the encounter the voluptuous Kijime who is worshipped
by a small race of bird creatures as their queen.
Kijime immeadiately takes a shining to the Player and
comes along with Momo & Co. in order to try to win
his affections.
As the game starts, the mystical Nayotake, a young
but very smart princess, has stolen the magic Dragon
Sphere which is a talisman of great power. She steals
it from the capital in order to ressurect a giant
demon who she'll use to dominate the country. Momo
here's of this, but also learns that Nayotake was born
from a bamboo tree just as she was born from a peach.
So the group decides to join up with the collected
group of warriors who are being hired by the empire
to stop Nayotake's plot.
The story stems to two different plot from this point.
One is that Momo and her friends go to confront
Nayotake. The other is that the group follows Kijime's
suggestion of staying at a resort instead which leads
to the Player becoming ill and the rest of the crew
tries to find a way to help him with his ailment. There
are four possible endings to this story, two from one
plot point and two from the other. Each one is specific
to whichever female character(Momo, Nayotake, Kijime, or Oinu) was given the most attention based on the
Player's decision as to what choices were made during
the game.
