Magic Knights of Rayearth
Summary
Mahou Kishi Reiaasu (Magic Knight Rayearth) is originally a manga by the shoujo manga group CLAMP. The manga has been collected into 6 volumes, 3 for Part 1 and 3 for Part 2. It has also been animated into a TV series, which has finished at 20 episodes. The second season of the TV series has recently concluded at 29 episodes. Rayearth has become very popular in Japan, spawning lots of merchandise. It's success comes as no surprise, as it incorporates many popular elements: Magical girls, giant mecha, 'sword and sorcery', action, and SD humor. But Rayearth is more than just fluff, it also has romance, character development, and interesting plot twists (you'd expect nothing less from CLAMP). But enough of this, let's get to the story!
Part 1:
Hikaru Shidou, Umi Ryuuzaki, and Fuu Hououji suddenly find themselves transported to Cefiro a world of magic and monsters. Clef, an ancient wizard, tells them that they have been summoned by the guardian of Cefiro, Princess Emeraude. Once a paradise, Cefiro is now in chaos. In order to save this fragile world, the three girls must win their spurs to become Magic Knights, for only the combined powers of the Knights can hope to challenge the evil priest, Zagato, and so save the Princess and Cefiro from oblivion.
Part 2:
Hikaru, Umi and Fuu are once again mysteriously summoned to Cefiro without Princess Emeraude, one of the so-called pillars of Cefiro. The one-time realm of magic is on the brink of oblivion, with the three outer-world kingdoms of Autozam, Farhen and Cizeta beginning an invasion of Cefiro in an attempt to overthrow the pillar system. To the forefront of this interplay comes a mysterious girl known only as Nova, and the wheel of fortune begins to turn.
