Updates/News

Welcome to the News/Update section, Site updates and any News that pops up about Evangelion (and at times other anime) I will place here. News Archive section created (unfortunately it only contains news from the year 2001 onwards, year 2000 news was lost when my HD crashed)

DATE

NEWS

NOTE Expect delays in the news/fanfic updates. (I've added bits of info (that I missed) to different news posts that are related to each other, look for : *update*)

21/04/2004 News: Some news update *surprise*. If you don't know by now ADV will released a new version of the Evangelion DVD's called Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum edition, which has similarities to the Gainax renewal release (5.1 sound, clear pictures etc..).
Is it Renewal on R1?, maybe (sound like it) but more will be announced at Sakura-Con. Go to AOD to read the press release.

14/01/2004 News: First update for the year : ). On my visit to the GAiNAX site (which I haven't been to for a while) I saw 3 CD's released which contains the full versions of the classical music used in the eva series (an English description of the CD are on Animaxis).

And from a post on the EML (evangelion mailing list) Megumi Hayashibara is releasing a new music CD containing a new version of Zankoku na Tenshi no Tesis (called "Zankoku na tenshi no THESIS (AD 2001)").

22/10/2003 News: From IGN.com, they say that the new PS2 Evangelion 2 game will be released in Japan on 20th of November, interesting  quote: "contains scenes from the movie and even answers to previous secrets".
Also related to the game, there's a model of unit 01 in extra armour (as seen in the promo pics for the PS2 game) here.

27/09/2003 News: Quote from Natsumemaya: "GAiNAX has confirmed that volume 9 of the Evangelion manga will be published in the coming (northern) spring and that the limited edition version will come with Ayanami Rei action figure."

06/09/2003 News: On Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo, the GoS2 manga is reviewed along with the contents of the new Eva Ace magazine (which consists of manga done by different people, news about games and the live action movie). Also screenshots of the PS2 game (see below) can be seen here and here.
23/08/2003 News: This might be the second big announcement involving the evangelion renewal project by Gainax, Evangelion 2 a Playstation 2 game. To be released in November 2003 and is to be supervised by Anno Hideaki.

And a quote from the source
Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo
"Displays will be a mix of 2D scenes and 3D scenes (eg for movement, battle scenes). You start off playing Shinji but as the game progresses can also control Rei and Asuka. Work on the game is said to be 50% completed. Judging by the photos in Famitsu, looks like the game will be a retelling of the Evangelion story."

I personally was hoping for something different (since I've played the N64 eva game already) but I'm looking forward in seeing eva on PS2.
11/08/2003 News: A quote from Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo (I'm too tired to type)
"A special issue of Monthly Shonen Ace magazine will be published on 29 August 2003: "Eva Ace". It'll contain 94 pages of the Neon Genesis Evangelion manga featuring Kaworu's introduction and Asuka's mind pollution, illustrations from Yoshizaki Mine (Keroro Gunso, known in the West as Sgt Frog, IIRC), Obata Takeshi (Hikaru no Go) and others. It'll also come with large Ayanami Rei "stand panel" (which I presume means some 2D figure of Rei) and clear Eva stickers illustrated by Sadamoto Yoshiyuki, author of the shonen manga. Price 648 yen."

Also Madman Entertainment is planning to release manga in Australia, one of the 3 titles announced so far is the Evangelion manga

And from ANN (another quote) about the live action movie (nothing new)
"When asked about the Evangelion Live Action movie, Greenfield explained that there was no new information at this time. Scripts have been written and they are searching for a director. While Hideaki Anno is not directly involved in the creation of the script, he has looked over the scripts and made suggestions."

06/08/2003 News: To catch up on some eva related news I missed, the new evangelion CD Refrain of Evangelion came out on the 24th last month (nothing new in it according to what was said on Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo.) And if you want to see the covers and booklets from the individual renewal DVD's go here.
25/07/2003 News: New Evangelion manga coming out in the October 2003 issue of Kadokawa Shoten's shoujo manga magazine Monthly Asuka, based on the game Iron maiden 2nd but with a different story. Source Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo
23/07/2003 News: Long quote copied from http://anime-tourist.com/ from this article, listing more info on the evangelion live action movie.

"The live action Evangelion movie is in pre-production right now. Weta has done about 1200 colour concept illustrations. After several drafts (they've been working on it for about six months now), they finally have a draft screenplay with the essence of the first half of the Evangelion series. It looks like the movie will only focus on the first half of the series since a 90 minute movie could not do justice to a 26 episode series. Everyone at Gainax loves the script and Ano said that it raised some ideas that he hadn't expected. Speaking of Ano, he will not be directing the movie nor will Peter Jackson, who just got the green light on King Kong (a series he *really* wants to do).

They are currently shopping the script around with various directors to find a director with the right background (sci-fi). Once they pick a director, the script will probably go through a few revisions to reflect the vision of the new director.

When asked if there is a big 7 studio involved, the answer was that there are several studios involved, but nothing can be said until all of the ink on the contracts is dry. To address concerns about how the special effects would be done, it was disclosed that Weta turned down two major projects to take on the Eva project ("They would shock you", Matt says). [ed note: So it would seem that Weta is very dedicated to the project. Look how good LOTR turned out.]"

10/07/2003 News: From the AOD forum, you can find the cover art for the first 2 individual renewal of evangelion dvds: The first disk and second disk
02/07/2003 News: I thought I mentioned this already (but I didn't) so some old news, Gainax is planning to release an Evangelion game on PS2 (titled: "Neon Genesis Evangelion: Ayanami Ikusai Keikaku with Asuka Hokan Keikaku"). It's like the raising Ayanami game (where you organizes and raise Rei as a specific type of person) only this time you can choose Asuka.
28/06/2003 News: Over at Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo it's been said that a booklet that comes with the renewal box set confirms the existence of the alternate versions of the live action sequences (read more about it on the Evaotaku website). *update* missed something that's also mentioned, a new eva CD is going to be released sometime (currently its scheduled for release on July 24).

27/06/2003 News: As you all should know Gainax's remastered evangelion box set is out and on this ANS page they have taken a few photos displaying the box and listing its contents. Personally I prefer this box design over both the R1/R4 boxes.
25/06/2003 News: More news on the live action movie (I really should make a separate page for this stuff, but too lazy) from ANN

"Live Action Eva details (2003-06-24 02:25:45)
ADV talked about the upcoming live action Evangelion at their panel at Fanime. The movie has a budget of $100 million and will be a retelling of the story. The July issue of Newtype USA should apparently contain a lot of information about the film."

I wonder how they plan to retell Evangelion a 26 episode series in 2/3 hours?

*update* from Anime Tourist, the same news listed above only with a little more detail

"According to Matt, "If they do half of what they've sketched, it will be the most amazing sci-fi movie you'll ever see." The movie will be shot partially on location in New Zealand and will feature an international cast."

18/06/2003 News: Too lazy and it too long to type it all out again so quoting time from Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo
  • "GAiNAX has stated on its online diary (today's entry) that a manga based on the Evangelion computer game Koutetsu no Girlfriend 2nd (Iron Maiden 2nd) - which game was released last month - will commence serialisation in Kadokawa Shoten's shoujo manga magazine Monthly Asuka, starting with the October 2003 issue, on sale 24 August 2003. Source: Moonphase. Shoujo Eva manga...? Sadamoto Yoshiyuki's shonen Evangelion manga is serialised in Kadokawa's manga magazine Monthly Shonen Ace-A."

    and
      "GAiNAX has announced on its
Neon Genesis Evangelion website that, following the news of the live action Hollywood (and New Zealand) movie, another big announcement will be made in the (northern) summer. There's more to come in the Eva Renewal Project."

If I remember correctly their last big announcement was Project [Re] (Evangelion Renewal Project) I wonder what's more to come? *update* From AOD forum Gainax said they will make there announcement in August/September

12/06/2003 News: While browsing thru the net I found that Reflections of EVA (along with Symphony of EVA) is now back online after being forced to close down for copyright infringements all those years ago (it had a big list of  mp3/picture files back then but it's all gone now.) But the site design is still good as ever, go check it out.
09/06/2003 News: Early concept art from Weta on the evangelion live action movie, quote from ANN
"Live Action Eva Designs (2003-06-08 00:18:47)

This
is a page from the current Japanese Issue of Newtype. The pictures are by a designer at Weta Workshop. Weta is working with ADV and Gainax to produce a live action Evangelion."
02/06/20003 From ANN, ADV announced the completion of the live action evangelion script (which has yet to be approved) at A-Kon, and on the Gainax site it looks like (i'm not sure) prices and release dates for the individual release of the renewal disks.
21/5/2003 News: Last year there was a rumour floating around about James Cameron creating a live action Evangelion film, but now on ANN, looks like someone else has decided to do that:

"Variety.com (original article only available to subscribers--free trial available), reporting from the Cannes Film Festival, reports that Gainax, Weta, and ADV are teaming up to produce a live action film based on Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Gainax and ADV Films should be instantly recognizable to any anime fan as the studio that created Evangelion and ADV as the studio that owns the worldwide rights to the TV series and localized it for North American audiences. Weta Workshop, however, may not be a familiar name. Weta is the New Zealand studio set up by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson to handle the special effects for the LOTR trilogy.
Adding complete credibility to this story is the quote from ADV Films president and co-founder John Ledford: "The three main players here represent something of a dream team for a project like this. Between the quality and significance of Gainax, Weta's industry-leading skill in visual effects and our expertise in the marketing and promotion of anime and anime-related content, this project is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."
To top it off, while the film is still in early development, Ledford mentions an "aggressive timetable."
ANN has confirmed this story with ADV Films."

12/05/2003 News: Quote from Natsume Goushin Ryu Dojo "A new Evangelion artbook will be published by Kadokawa Shoten in July 2003. Titled "Shin Seiki Evangelion Gashuu Die Sterne" (Neon Genesis Evangelion Art Collection Die Sterne), it'll contain 200 illustrations from anime magazines, video packaging etc and will be supervised by Anno Hideaki. The book will be B4 in size (IIRC that'd make it the same size as the Intron Depot books) and 122 pages. Price 3,000 yen (excluding tax)."
20/04/2003 News: ADV announcement at Anime Boston 2003: They have the 4 (not six as reported on the AOD forum) Directors Cut episodes (ep's. 21 to 24) of Evangelion licensed.

In the past it's been said that the asking price for these ep's. were expensive, and considering the rumored fallout between ADV and Gainax this was defiantly some surprising news. Maybe the price dropped since Gainax's Evangelion remastered ep's are coming out, but what ever the reason I'm sure most western Eva fans would be happy, I know I am.

17/04/2003 News: Info on the Gainax site has listed the contents of the bonus disk. And this post on AOD saves me from trying to translated it all

-For movie and TV series.

05. Non-telop OP and ED
-Creditless remastered OP and ED.

06. AR Rush Film.
-Rush film used at the time of After Recording, ie post-recording of dialogue.

13/04/2003 Other: I received the Test-type DVD a while back and I was very impressed with what I saw. The 5.1 sound sound, redone scenes and the new animated full version of EVA's Op/End songs were excellently done.

I spotted some new scenes in the new opening that I've never seen before (all were "pencil like" sketches, but they might be in one of the art books since I don't have them), the real underwater scene used for the ending was good and it looks like some new dialog has been added to the first ep. It's just too bad the whole box set cost too much (and my lack of understanding the Japanese language doesn't help either).

11/03/2003 News: Quote from Natsume Maya's webpage: "First pressing of GAiNAX's PC game Shin Seiki Evangelion Koutetsu no Girlfriend 2nd (Neon Genesis Evangelion Iron Maiden 2nd) will come with a mousepad and sticker set. This adventure game will be for Windows 98/ME/2000/XP computers and will be released on 16 May 2003, price 8,800 yen. As previously reported, the game will be set in the alternate universe of episode 26 of the TV series, where Rei is a transfer student and Misato a teacher."

Also from the same site: "With the Dreamcast version of the Ayanami Ikusei Keikaku (Rearing Project) game to be released on 18 April 2003, now it looks like GAiNAX will also be releasing a game for the Playstation 2 in the (northern) spring. With the tentative title of "Shin Seiki Evangelion Ayanami Ikusei Keikaku ~ Ayanami Ikusei Keikaku: Asuka Hokan Keikaku ~" (Neon Genesis Evangelion Ayanami Rearing Project ~ Ayanami Rearing Project: Asuka Complementation Project ~), it'll add Asuka as a character the player has to bring up."

26/02/2003 News: As expected the Evangelion airing on CN were edited (unlike what was said, that Eva will not be edited) go to the AB forum or ANN to see the list of edits.
And from the Gainax site, reservations of the 10 disk box set of the remastered evangelion DVD's are been accepted, and a release schedule for the disks are out.
21/02/2003 News: Late news, from Animenation (where they go it from this page here) says that Evangelion the newly remastered edition will be aired on Japanese TV network WOWOW in April.
18/02/2003 News: ANN has reported on what the new Evangelion DVD's will consists of, like the 5.1 sound, the box set, DC footage, live action scenes etc...
15/02/2003 News: I first saw it on EFML, where they said an Evangelion PS2 game was going to be made now it's on ANN.
8/02/2003 News: On the Gainax site, 2 news post on eva (one that I missed : p). The oldest one is about the Project [re] stuff in Newtype Japan which will come out on the 10th of February.

And the latest one is about the game Iron Maiden 2nd which from the looks of things is about the 'alternate universe' that Shinji created in the end of the series (the one where we see Rei running to school with toast in her mouth before knocking over Shinji) but I could be wrong.*edit* from the ramblings going on it seems I was right after all : )

31/01/2003 News: Manga has announced that the evangelion movie box set will be released somewhere around October 28, more news later when it pops up.
29/01/2003 News: From ANN, 2 episodes of Evangelion is to be aired on Cartoon Network on Feb 24th and 25th, along with other 'giant robot' anime (now we wait and see which episode CN airs and if anything gets edited).
25/01/2003 News: From the Gainax site, this image will be on the February edition of the Shonen Ace-A magazine and with news about the game Girlfriend of Steel 2nd.
17/01/2003 News: More news form the Gainax's Evangelion page, you can now pre order the sample eva DVD with the first remastered episode and the new edition of Cruel Angel's Thesis. It costs 1500 yen and to released on the 26th of March.
12/01/2003 News: My understanding of Japanese is low so from Gainax's Evangelion page, to me it looks like in the March edition of Newtype Japan will have a more information on the upcoming stuff from Gainax's "Neon Genesis Evangelion Project [re]", there's more to it but until it gets translated I won't risk guessing further.
Happy New Year everyone, it's now 2003 down here in Aus I wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year ^_^
Merry Christmas everyone ^_^ It being the 25th here in Aus, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year ^_^
20/12/2002 News: From the Gainax site, the 8th volume of the Evangelion manga, is out (and from the looks of the cover it should be about Nerv's past)
18/12/2002 Anime: Not much news on eva lately but there have bee some interesting stuff going on, like the ADV anime channel that's going to be released in the US some details about it have popped up on ANS. Also with the announcement of the second Ghost in the Shell movie titled Innocence that will be released in Japan in 2004, Production I.G. has made a poll on their forum looking for fan input to see if they will import the DVD if it comes with English subs. From AOD (who made their own version of the poll for people who don't want to sign up in the Production I.G forum just to vote)
10/12/2002 News: From Gainax site, they have created a Evangelion site with a bit more information on what on the CD and DVD that will be released next year but the site is in Japanese evangelion.co.jp, also Gainax's original eva site has been updated as well (which I just found out about) go here http://www.gainax.co.jp/anime/eva/index.html
09/12/2002 News: Well it's been announced, the 'Second Coming' of Evangelion involves: Super-Deformed UFO Catcher Dolls, more action figures, a CD containing new versions of the opening and ending themes in March and the sequel to Girlfriend of Steel (Girlfriend of Steel 2nd) with 2 versions going to be available for PC.

But the most important part of the announcement is the "Renewal of Evangelion" a DVD re-release of the series in Dolby 5.1 audio with remastered video, and an box to come with it.
from ANN
05/12/2002 News: I'm getting lazy here so I'll just directly quote from Natsume Maya's anime and manga webpage:

"What's going on with Evangelion? With the heading of "Second Coming", one of the feature articles in the next issue of Newtype (to be published in Japan on 10 December 2002) will be on Evangelion, including an interview with director Anno. Further, on the GAiNAX website, it's been stated that there'll be an important announcement in the February 2003 issue of Monthly Shonen Ace-A magazine, on sale 26 December 2002."

My guess, it's something to do with the manga since Anno had said that Evangelion was finished I doubt he will make a new show

02/12/2002 News: The Evaotaku.com page have been updated with translations of the 3 program books (two for d&r and the RCB for EoE), an extra section on alternate versions for EoE, some touch ups on the EOE script and other stuff.
28/11/2002 News: More news from Gainax, this time its about the Evangelion manga, volume 8 is going to be out in Japan around the 19th of December and in anime news the cover design is up on the AOD .hack page.
27/11/2002 News: Again from the Gainax website and the post by Bochan_bird on the EML, it look like a telephone card with the Asuka/Rei in Santa suit design is also being released for Christmas announced in this month's Ace-A manga magazine.

Anime: In other news, the Noir "surprise" was only a box with the first disc and a T-shirt, but Bandai's release of .Hack//SIGN has some interesting news for the limited edition, From AOD .hack page:

"The first volume will have a reversible cover, a character info gallery, and for fans of the score of this show (which seems to be quite a bit, considering the number of soundtrack requests we keep getting), there will be a Dolby Digital isolated score audio track.

Contrary to rumors and erroneous postings elsewhere, this first volume has a running time of 125 minutes. We've also learned that the Limited Edition release will street on 03/04/2003 for $59.98 while the regular disc only version won't street until 03/18/2003 for $29.98" and a comes with a Grunty (aka puchiguso) plushy.

17/11/2002 Anime: Not much anime news of interest to me lately but just read about... NOIR, which ADV have released an announcement:
"
Good news, anime fans – Noir is coming soon! Due to popular (and passionate!) demand, we’ve kicked production of the eagerly-awaited title into high gear – just for you, our loyal fans! Expect an announcement to be made next week about when you will be able to pick up Noir: Shades of Darkness, the first volume in this exciting series. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, next week’s press release will include a never-before-revealed major surprise about ADV’s plans for the Noir DVD series! Tune into this website all next week for more details – you’ll find it here first! ". first saw it from this this post on AOD, or you can go to the ADV website
12/11/2002 News: More from the Gainax website, there selling duplicated Evangelion cells again, with a serial no. and frame (I think). I want one but at 48000 yen (the cheaper ones) around US $400 I won't be able to afford it, but if you can go get one they look good : )
10/11/2002 News: Looks like Gainax are going to be selling Evangelion blankets sometime near Christmas this year, costing 8000 yen (excluding tax) it has the pictures of both Rei and Asuka in Santa suits (like the special manga cover for vol. 7).
09/11/2002 News: I have not yet bought Newtype USA so I don't know much about it, from AOD: Manga has sent a letter to the Newtype editors criticizing the reviews of both EOE and D&R movies (from what I've read I'm on Manga's side with this issue)
07/11/2002 Anime: It's been officially announced that ADV are releasing an Anime Channel in America, go to ANN and read more about it.
17/10/2002 News: thou not officially announced Manga has sent an email to customers about the problem with the EOE disks playing on different players. More info on the Anime on DVD page.
8/10/2002 News: With EOE R4 release coming, Madman have made a separate min-site with some extras for you to watch like: interviews with Shinji's, Gendou's, Fuyutsuki's and Kaji voice actors and trailers (not the live action one). Go here to check it out.
01/10/2002 News: Interesting news from the Madman forum, after several suggestions by fans on different ways to improve the R4 release of EOE the official list of what has been changed have been posted here or read below, very good news indeed ^_^

"Hi All, We have scoured newsgroups checking on reported issues with the USA End of Evangelion release and have implemented the following changes in our final Australian release, which may be delayed to stores by a day or two as a result:

1. reduced the number of audio tracks to allow improved video quality and reduce instances of possible error caused by bitrate overloading - audio tracks included on the DVD are: eng 5.1 DD, Jap 2.0, Jap 5.1 DD, Jap 6.1 DTS-ES, commentary
2. put a 5 second spacer after the feature and before credits to allow sufficient "what the.." time
3. moved the live trailer to extras
4. put a basic sub translation on the live trailer
5. moved subtitles to be completely inside the image
6. deleted some episode name subtitles which appeared for 2/25 sec each, as they caused some players to glitch in testing.
Audio setup should all be fully functional - hope you all enjoy it!!!
Best Regards, Tim Anderson
Managing Director Madman Entertainment"

27/09/2002 News: The EOE and the theatrical trailer translation on www.evaotaku.com have been fine tuned wit some minor wording and spelling corrections, Go there to read a more faithful translation of EOE
24/09/2002 News: Well with EOE out on R1 comments have been made about the good and bad points about the disk, from the same thread on the AOD forum as mentioned before reviews, problems and nick picks are all there for you to read about.
22/09/2002 News: With End of Evangelion coming out within a week, early reports of Manga's EOE DVD release doesn't sound good. From this thread on the AOD forum, it is speculated that the disk is a DVD 9 instead of a DVD 10 but the picture is printed around the center (taking the look of a DVD 10's disk but not really being one) or that it's a DVD 10 but only one side was used. Another thing was the EOE live trailer, which was said that it was placed at the start before the main feature instead of being in the extras section (and is not translated). Guess will here more about this when the disk is out.
10/09/2002 Anime: News on AXNY from ANN, Manga Entertainment have said that all three episodes of Read or Die will be on one DVD
Extras on the DVD will include a "massive" art gallery, equipment and character design sketches, including proposed ones that were not used, storyboards, and possibly interviews with the cast and/or staff.

Also they have said that EOE will be released on time and that Death & Rebirth DVD (which they have shipped over over 15,000 units) is unplayable on some lower-end RCA.

13/08/2002 News: With Manifest over and D&R ready for AUS release everything on track, but a few problems have popped up with the current batch of Madman D&R DVD's as stated here in this thread. Not a big problem unless you use Power DVD XP (get the latest patch and it will play this disk fine) but if your after perfection then wait a month.
10/08/2002 Anime: Well the first day of MANIFEST 2002 is over and with that more licensing announcements from Madman, Go here to read all about it.
09/08/2002 News: Manga's press release on the EOE DVD is up on ANS for you to read, so far nothing new worth mentioning about in the extras department (no news of any interview with Anno or any other people behind evangelion so far) only thing that's interesting is the English/Japanese 6.1 DTS-ES and English/Japanese 5.1 DD-EX and the Original EOE trailer (with the Japanese VA's (Rei, Asuka, Misato etc..) playing there characters in it).
07/08/2002 News: Live action Eva? not something that could be done well is my opinion, but from the report on AICN James Cameron is working on it, whether it's true or not its yet to be confirmed (I personally don't want it to be since it can't be done right anyway.)
02/08/2002 News: With Death and Rebirth now officially released reviews have been popping up everywhere, AOD's review here, Animefringe's review and one from the Evaotaku.com (a contest is been held here, if you can answer the questions right (which are simple) you might be able to win a D&R DVD but it's only for US residents). And some old news from the Gainax website on the 25th of last month the last image from some type of collectors illustration came out, go there to find out more.
28/07/2002 News: Forgot to update this but, In case you didn't know on the AOD forum it has been said that Manga might not be at fault with the current AIR/Rebirth incident, the source itself (Gainax) might have done this. Everything is just speculations right now guess we will have to wait and see. Go here to read the thread.
22/07/2002 News: Rebirth is not really Rebirth? that is what is being said on the latest review of Manga's D&R DVD release by Anime Jump. Some of the differences between Rebirth and Air are listed on the AOD and Animeboard forum's,
from the AOD forum posted by slykura:
"The few different scenes are 1. when tanks are attacking they are supposed to be moving and not stationary. 2. General quality of some scenes were rushed and not as detailed as in the end of eva, Sound track: 1. When Magi is put into the 666 mode, you only get 1 voice saying "sleep" i think its what it was chanting , in the end of eva it was a few voices 2. when Asuka wakes up inside the eva and says "i don't want to die" she doesn't do it quite as well as it was done in EOE."

and from the AB forum posted by MDWigs:
"I had a list of the difference I wrote up a couple of years ago, but its buried beneath all my other Eva stuff and I'm too lazy to dig it out now, maybe later if enough people bug me ^^ (hehe go on bug him for it : ). The easiest way I have found of telling the difference between Rebirth and Air it to look at the scene where Asuka wakes up inside of Eva-02. In Air she reaches out to Kyouko's outstretched hand, in Rebirth that scene is missing."

And of course the ending of Rebirth is different from Air but that shouldn't have been changed.
