Stadium is a beautiful 3-D N64 game where you can get one of 149 (not Mewtwo or Mew) "rental" Pokémon from the computer and battle them against the computer or up to 3 other players. If you don't want a rental, you can upload Pokémon from your Red, Blue or Yellow Game Paks. You can see your cute little Pokémon: Yellow Pikachu in its full 3-D glory. That Pikachu is the only Pokémon in the game that can actually say its name.
Within the game itself are 9 mini-games, called the Kids Club. Here they are, in no particular order:
Clefairy Says A teacher Clefairy gives orders to her students. They must repeat them back to her correctly, or Mrs. Clefairy will hit them with a sledge hammer. The winner is the student who gets hit the least.
Run, Rattata, Run It's a rat race. Rattatas on treadmills must hop over hurdles and get to the finish line first.
Snore War Drowzee lets out sleep waves when the pendulum in the middle reaches the bottom of its arc. Drowzee must emit its sleep waves and put all the other Drowzees to sleep. The last one awake is the victor.
Thundering Dynamo Pikachus and Voltorbs must charge themselves up. The one that is fully charged first shocks all the others.
Sushi-Go-Round Lickitung lovers unite! The object is to eat the sushi on the conveyor belt. The sushi varies in point value, so strategy is a factor as well as speed. The Lickie with the most points after 60 seconds wins.
Ekans Hoop Hurl A fancy game of ring toss. Chuck your Ekans at a Dugtrio's head. The one with the most Dugtrio heads wins. Watch out for Gold Dugtrios; they're worth 2 points!
Rock Harden Metapods and Kakunas face off to see who can harden the best. Rocks come flying in, and you must harden so they don't kill you. Harden consumes HP, though. The last Metapod or Kakuna with HP wins.
Dig! Dig! Dig! Sandshrew must dig a hole. The winner is the one who reaches bottom first. You know when you reach bottom because you get shot up on a geyser of water!
Aside from the mini-games, there is the Gym Leaders Castle, where you battle all 8 gym leaders (plus their junior trainers) and the Elite 4 and Gary. Once you beat the Tower, you are given a Pokémon Prize. Prizes are Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Eevee, Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, Omanyte, or Kabuto. The recommended team to use against the Elite 4 includes Starmie, Flareon, Alakazam, Lapras, Raichu, and Golem.
Finally, the main point of the game: the Stadium. The Stadium contains 4 battles, each with different rules. Once you defeat all trainers in all the cups, and then defeat the Gym Castle, night will fall and Mewtwo will appear.
Defeat Mewtwo and you win the game. You will go into a Round 2 stage, where you have to defeat everything again. Plus, Mew will be available for rent in the R2 Prime Cup.
A few of the lovely little extras included in the game are the Hall of Fame, showcasing every Pokémon who won the Elite 4 battle or a Stadium cup. Once you get every Pokémon (including Mew) into the Hall, you will receive a special Psyduck who knows Amnesia. Another extra is Professor Oak's Lab, which allows you to keep tabs on your Game Boy Pokémon, use items, organize the Pokémon, and even trade them. And lastly, there's the Game Boy Tower, where you are able to play your Game Boy games through Stadium. No more buying batteries! As you go on, you may win a Doduo or Dodrio Game Boy to speed up your game play.
