Hikari's Request Rules

General Information:
  • I accept VHS requests on a regular basis, and trade/SASE requests on a limited basis. If you are interested in SVHS requests/trades, please e-mail me to inquire.
  • I can take VHS requests and trades from the US and Canada ONLY.
  • I am currently accepting requests and trades for 1 to 12 tapes at a time ONLY.
  • I can take SASE requests from the US ONLY
  • I am currently accepting SASE requests for 1 to 12 tapes at a time ONLY
  • Titles in red are available for mixing and matching -- two titles in red per tape.
  • All tapes are recorded in SP, HiFi mode on T-120 (2 hr) length tapes, unless noted that a T-160 (2 hr 40 min) length tape is necessary. There is an additional charge for T-160 tapes -- see cost information below.
  • I use TDK E-HG or TDK Vivid grade VHS tapes. They come with standard cardboard sleeves.
  • As I am not a professional at this, occasionally a tape may be recorded incorrectly. If this occurs, e-mail me to let me know about the problem and I will re-record it for you. However, I will have to ask that the bad tape be sent back to me, as I cannot afford the price of a new tape and additional postage. Gomen. Hopefully this will never happen. ~_^
  • If tapes are damaged because of mishandling by the post office, the matter will have to be discussed with them. I am not responsible for any physical damage done to the tapes. (This has happened to three requests I've sent out so far, as of 6/10/01) If you are concerned about this potential problem, you may insure your package as stated in the cost information below.

Request Cost Information:

  • Tapes are $2 each.
  • Packaging via bubble mailer or cardboard box will be $1 to $1.50.
  • As shipping is now variable by region, I will calculate the postage cost for you after you have sent me your e-mail request (w/mailing address). I will ship via either USPS media mail or priority mail.
  • If you would like to estimate shipping costs on your own, go to http://postcalc.usps.gov/
You will need the following information: the "to zip code" is 92507. Estimate each tape to weigh 8 oz. And choose the shipping method (priority or media mail) that you'd prefer.

For US requests:

  • Add $1.00 per T-160 length tape requested to the total cost (if applicable).
  • Add $1.30 to the total cost if you would like to insure your request against any potential damage or loss caused by the post office.
  • Total cost covers the tapes, shipping, delivery confirmation, packaging, and printed spine labels.
  • Preferred method of reimbursement is by money order. Only send cash if there is absolutely no alternative; if for some reason I don't receive your money, I am not responsible for any loss. Checks will not be accepted as they take too much time to process.
  • I will also accept Paypal IF AND ONLY IF you send funds that are either already in your Paypal account or from your checking account. I will not accept credit card payments via Paypal.

For Canadian requests:

  • Add $1.00 per T-160 length tape requested to the total cost (if applicable).
  • Total cost covers the tapes, shipping via airmail, packaging, and printed spine labels.
  • Method of reimbursement is by international money order payable in US dollars ONLY. Checks will not be accepted as they take too much time to process.
  • NOTE 10/12: I'm trying out hyperwallet.com right now, and if my trial request is successful, I will add hyperwallet.com as an acceptable method of payment for Canadians.

Request Rules:

  1. When you have decided which titles you would like to request, e-mail me with the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your mailing address
    • Your e-mail address
    • Titles requested
    • Shipping method (USPS priority mail or media mail)
    • Insurance if desired
    • Method of payment
Please use "fansub request" as the subject heading for this e-mail message.
  2. I will respond with a confirmation e-mail within the next 1-3 days. You will receive my address at that time.
  3. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail after this 3-day time period, most likely I did not receive your e-mail. Please re-submit your e-mail request if still interested.
  4. After you have received the confirmation e-mail, please send in your request and include the following items:
    • A printout of the confirmation e-mail, or a letter typed or written neatly on an 8X11 sheet of paper including the five (or six) items listed above
    • A self-addressed mailing label
    • Method of reimbursement (money order, cash or Paypal - see restrictions above)
  5. If you have decided that you do not want to request from me and have already sent a request e-mail, please e-mail me within 2 weeks (starting from the date you sent your e-mail) to let me know that you have changed your mind. I would very much appreciate this as a common courtesy.
  6. If interested, you may submit another request after you receive your current request in the mail.

Trading Information and Rules:

  1. To initiate a trade with me, e-mail me with the titles you'd like from my list, and a link to your website or an attached list of the titles you have.
  2. I will e-mail you confirming the trade if you have any titles I'm interested in. We will exchange addresses then.
  3. I ask that you e-mail your tapes first, since you have initiated the trade.
  4. After I receive your tapes in the mail, I will begin recording your tapes. I will e-mail you to let you know when I have sent off your portion of the trade.
  5. If interested, you may initiate another trade with me after you've received your current trade tapes in the mail
  • A few details: I don't like cheap tapes. If you are interested in trading with me, I don't want anything less than Fuji Premium High Grade, TDK E-HG/Vivid/Revue Premium Grade, Maxell High Grade or Sony High Grade. These are the lowest quality tapes I will accept.
  • I don't trade for commercial titles. If you ask for a trade and offer me Fushigi Yuugi or something else that's long been available, expect to be ignored.
  • Lastly, I'm only interested in trading if you have EX to VG quality tapes (according to MY rating system).
I know these rules seem rather rigid, but I want to make clear what it is that I look for in a trade. If you have any questions about my trading policy, please e-mail me. And if you're unsure about asking me for a trade, remember that it doesn't hurt to ask! (As long as you don't want to trade for commercial stuff.) =P

SASE Request Information and Rules:

  1. When you have decided which titles you would like to request, e-mail me with the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your mailing address
    • Your e-mail address
    • Titles requested
    • The tape brand/grade you plan to send
    • Delivery confirmation if desired
Please use "SASE request" as the subject heading for this e-mail message.
  2. I will respond with a confirmation e-mail within the next 1-3 days. You will receive my address at that time.
  3. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail after this 3-day time period, most likely I did not receive your e-mail. Please re-submit your e-mail request if still interested.
  4. After you have received the confirmation e-mail, go to your local store and purchase some brand new tapes. However, be sure to get one of these brands/grades of tape (I DO NOT like standard grade tapes!):
    • Fuji Premium High Grade or higher
    • Maxell High Grade, Maxell Gold or higher
    • TDK E-HG, TDK Vivid, TDK Revue Premium Grade or higher
    • Sony High Grade or higher
Here is a partial listing of tapes to give you an idea of what types of brands and grades I DO NOT ACCEPT (I don't think I can name all of them...too many!):
    • TDK HS, TDK S-HG, TDK Revue Standard Grade
    • Maxell Standard Grade, Maxell Bronze/Silver
    • Any Sony V, RCA tapes, Radio Shack tapes (or any non-name, generic brand), etc.
Cheaper brands of tape wear out VCRs much more quickly than the higher grades, so I will not accept any of them. So basically, if the tape(s) you send for me to record onto is/are not on my "approved" tape list, I will be sending your tapes back to you unrecorded.
  5. Send *no more than* 12 tapes at a time.
    • Leave the tapes in the cellophane so I know they're new. If it's part of a multi-pack and they're not individually wrapped, that's fine...when tapes have never been put in a VCR, the tape spool is at a certain position. If it's not in the "brand new" position, I'll know it's used.
    • I will NOT record on previously-used tapes, as they shorten the lifespan of my VCRs. If you send me used tapes, I'll send them back to you without having recorded on them as well.
  6. Send the tapes in a box or *NEW* bubble mailer to my mailing address, and include the following items:
    • A print-out of the confirmation e-mail or a letter typed or written neatly on an 8X11 sheet of paper including your name, address, e-mail, and the titles you would like me to record.
    • A self-addressed mailing label (they have free priority labels at the post office)
    • Cash or enough stamps to cover postage. After you receive my mailing address with zip code, I suggest going down to the post office and having them weigh your package to see how much it will cost to ship to me. They will let you know exactly how much money/amount in stamps you need to send me to cover return postage.
    • If you'd like to add "delivery confirmation" to your package, enclose an extra $0.45/$0.55 to cover the cost.
  7. I will print out black, text-only spine labels for your tapes. If you'd like to print your own labels, please include this information in your request letter. I will then label your tapes with post-it notes.
  8. If interested, you may submit another request after you receive your current request in the mail.

Some Final Notes:
  • Your request or trade may be delayed or not processed if any of these rules are not followed. I may even send your request letter/trade/SASE tapes back to you if I find that you have blatantly ignored my rules. I will subsequently contact you via e-mail if any such problem arises.
  • Requests and trades are filled in order according to the date I receive them.
  • I will only begin recording your tapes once I have received your request letter/trade/SASE tapes in the mail.
  • A status page is available for you to check your request/trade status.
  • Turn-around time only includes the date from when I receive your letter to the date I send your package. It does not include the number of days the postal service takes to deliver the package to your address. For the US, priority mail usually takes 2-3 days to deliver, although on occasion they have been known to take up to a week. For Canada, airmail is supposed to take 4 to 7 days, but I've heard that, at times, it may take anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on what region the package is going to.
  • As I am a small one-woman distro, please understand that while I strive to meet my turn-around time, I may not always do so. I am not a business... I do this solely because I love anime and I'd like to help other people get their hands on some of the unlicensed (esp. shoujo) series that I love, and spread word about their greatness! ^_^ Sometimes life gets in the way of our plans, and I expect you to appreciate this fact.
  • One last thing: I know it seems like my rules are pretty strict, but I just want to make sure that I can complete each request quickly and efficiently so that in the end you and I BOTH are satisfied with the end result. Thank you for understanding! ^_^
