The much forgotten disclaimer: These characters belong to Takahashi-sama, the revered almost-goddess of mangadom (yes, I know that's not a word, but someday, if used enough, it will be =P). The basic idea came from Ikumi's Into the Well challenge site. However, this story, at least, is mine. Please don't sue for the other things ^-^;

A/N: Sorry this took so long, and is so short.

This chapter is dedicated to Kells, who reviewed a total of THREE times to get me to upload. Thanks loads for the inspiration! ^-^

Consequences

By Ami/Clara

Chapter Two

Kagome took several moments to collect herself. Well, actually much more than several. It was probably an hour or so before Kagome gathered the will to stand. What was she going to tell them? What would their reactions be? Her mother was going to kill her. And Inu Yasha.. How would he react? He didn't even know about what had happened that night.. While she, too, had been drunk, she obviously had consumed less alcohol than the hanyou. Inu Yasha hadn't remembered a thing.

Thinking about that night made Kagome blush slightly. Most of it had been a blur, but what parts she had remembered were.. interesting. Shaking her head to clear those thoughts, Kagome turned her mind back to the matter at hand.

Whatever happened, one thing was certain to Kagome. She couldn't- no, wouldn't- abort this child. That wasn't even an option. Kagome couldn't kill his child. Their child. Even if Inu Yasha didn't know, and it had probably all been a mistake.. She would still bear the consequences.

Kagome dusted herself off, and opened the door to the wellhouse. First, she had to tell her mother and the rest of her family. After getting her mother's reaction, Kagome would take it from there.

Inu Yasha paced around the well. He had managed to sit still for an hour and five minutes. A record for him. "Where is that girl?" He growled, frustrated. His life was so boring without Kagome. Inu Yasha had gotten used to her presence. After all, he had spent most of his time since he had "awakened" around her.

Maybe he was getting too attached, he thought, not for the first time. By now, he didn't know what he would do without her around. Kagome was the person that gave purpose to his life. Inu Yasha didn't even want to think about what would happen once the jewel was collected, once she went home for good. He wanted her to realize that to him, this was her home now.

Inu Yasha sighed, shaking his head to clear his mind. He did not want to be thinking about this right now. There were more important issues at hand. Like, what was taking that woman so darn long in her time? And, where was the next direction they would go for their search of the jewel shards. Also, what had happened that New Year's Eve? The mystery continued to puzzle Inu Yasha, and he sat down yet again to ponder it, chasing ideas around in his head.

Kagome went into the house, cornered her mother, sat down with her, and told her everything. Kagome got through the entire story without her mother saying a single word. Even after all had been revealed, her mother looked at the floor, not moving, not speaking. "M-mom?" Kagome prodded. She needed to know what her mom's reaction was. "W-what do you think I should do?" She reached forward to touch her mother's shoulder.

Her mother smacked her hand away before Kagome could touch her. Kagome's mother finally looked up, absolutely furious. "First," she started, voice conveying anger and disappointment, "You go to that past for days, and don't return. I say nothing."

Higurashi-san stood. "Then, you start failing classes. I remain silent."

She started to take a step towards her daughter, then stopped. "Now, you are pregnant. I have no words for how I feel!"

Kagome's mother turned her back on her daughter, walking to the door. She stopped at the door, turning one last time to look at Kagome. "This, I cannot condone by remaining silent, nor can I find the words with which to speak." She walked out the door, slamming it behind her.

"Mama.." Kagome whispered. She hadn't know what to expect from her mother, but this certainly had not been a predicted outcome. "..I'm sorry.." If her mother had reacted like this, how would the rest of her family take it? And.. how would Inu Yasha take this piece of news. Steeling herself to the possibility of being shunned by all whom she loved, Kagome trudged out of the house towards the well.

Authors Note:

Sorry this is so short! I was very encouraged by the reviews I got, and would like to thank everyone who reviewed. I had this chapter done ages ago, but hadn't had time to correct any mistakes. Also, I had hoped I would get more written, but school has been evil!! And my computer ate several of my ficcies Y-Y Sorry to those of you who have read Mistake and liked it, because most of chapter two was eaten. T-T;;

Anyway, a big thanks to my reviewers: Kells (I dedicate this chapter to you, for reviewing three times in a row, even without new material; I'm glad you like it so much ^-^); Kaze Yanagi (thanks for the tip; I just wish my muses would follow it ^^;); Yuriko (well, here's more like you asked for); Azurite (you might try my site, though it doesn't have them all (and don't let the main update page or main page fool you; I rarely remember to put up the fact that I updated) https://www.angelfire.com/anime/mercury1 ; Another IY ficcie I posted on fanfiction.net was Reflections, numbering four stories now); Miss Fluffy (thanks for the suggestion, though I do have the end mostly worked out already; the trouble is getting the story written ^^;); Senay (here's more ^-^); Rita (My next installment of Reflections dealing with Dog Boy is going to be dedicated to you, as you seem to be the person that's taken the most interest in it besides myself ^-^); Kota Magic (I'm trying; If only the days held more hours..); Nimbusrey (thanks; that was the part I liked most, too ^-^.. As for the other, well, you'll find out the rest when I write more of it); Misty42 (LoL!); Misao (I know ^^;;); Laz (thankies for being the first reviewer! ^-^ And yes, it's staying IY/Ka; I am, however, the first to post to the challenge site with a non-IY/Ka pairing >:) Too bad I set a sort of weird precedent; I found one with Ka/Naraku! It looks to be a challenge with veeery interesting results)

*Looks up at replies to reviews; that took up as much space as a scene in the story O-O; Ah, oh well, mayhap that was a bad idea ^^; ; waves g'bye "And remember to REVIEW!!!"*
