Disclaimer: Inu Yasha wasn't created by me, and I hold no rights to
it. I'm just using the characters for the entertainment value of others.
Please don't sue me. I have no money, so it would just be pointless and a
waste of time.

This is a challenge that I found that I thought would be fun to do.
I was given the situation of some Inu Yasha characters (I get to choose which
ones) stuck in a cabin, in freezing conditions, where to fall asleep
uncovered means you freeze to death. One blanket. This is the result.

Interrupted Moments

by Ami

Inu Yasha and Kagome ran out of the winter storm. The blizzard had
hit when they were least expecting it. They had been seperated from the
others, and luckily found shelter in this small shed. Kagome hadn't even
brought her pack with her; she had left it with Sango and Miroku. Kagome
hoped that everyone else had made it back to the village safely.

Inu Yasha and Kagome silently looked around the shed. It was empty.
While the shed would keep out the snow, it did little to keep out the bitter
cold. "What are we going to do about warmth?" asked Kagome worriedly.
"We'll freeze by morning."

Then the pair noticed a small closet. "Maybe we'll find something in
there," said Inu Yasha. He walked over to it, and opened it to reveal its
contents. Inside lay a single, woolen blanket. Inu Yasha picked it up and
tossed it to her. "Here."

"But what about you?" asked Kagome, "You'll freeze."

"I'll be fine," said Inu Yasha. "I'm a half demon. Unlike you
fragile humans, cold doesn't affect me." He would have convinced Kagome,
too, if it weren't for the fact that he sneezed right after he was finished
speaking.

"Don't lie to me." Kagome replied. "Look, the blanket is big enough
for both of us. We can share." At his doubtful look, she added "If you
won't use the blanket, then I won't either."

Inu Yashagave a small "Feh." for appearances, but was internally
thinking how grateful he was. He and Kagome sat down next to each other, and
Kagome draped the blanket around them.

They stared at each other for a few seconds, Inu Yasha blushing
slightly at how close Kagome was. "I guess we should get some sleep." he
said.

"Yeah," said Kagome, staring into his eyes, "Sleep." she repeated.
It was obvious sleep was the last thing on either of their minds. Unnoticed by the two, the door slid open for a second, then quickly shut.

They stared into each other's eyes for awhile, each blushing
slightly. The pair hadn't spent this much time alone together without
arguing for a long time. Kagome, through some subconcious command from her
brain, was moving slightly closer to Inu Yasha, tilting her head upward.
Inu Yasha leaned down, about to-

Shippo popped up between the two. "Whatcha guys doing?" he asked.

Kagome and Inu Yasha moved to seperate sides of the room so fast they
appeared to just have teleported to their new locations. "Sh-shippo!"
stuttered Kagome, surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"I followed your trail through the snow," he replied. Shippo
shivered a little.

Kagome walked back over to where he was, picking up the blanket from
where it had been discarded when she and Inu Yasha had leaped to opposite
sides of the shed. She pulled the blanket around both her and Shippo,
looking at Inu Yasha expectantly. "Come on, there's room for three." she
said. Inu Yasha joined the two, glaring silent daggers at Shippo for having
destroyed Kagome and his one romantic moment.

Suddenly, the door blew open again, and in stumbled Miroku and Sango.
"It's freezing out there!" Sango exclaimed.

Miroku dragged in Kagome's pack. He dumped it on the floor. "You
have no idea how heavy that satchel is!" he said, slumping down onto the
floor, shivering from the cold. Sango quickly shut the door, keeping more
snow from entering the shed.

"My pack!" Kagome exclaimed excitedly. She rushed over to it,
abandoning the blanket to Inu Yasha and Shippo. At everyone's questioning
look, she told them, "I have enough blankets in here to keep everyone warm."
She quickly pulled out one for every person (and demon) in the room.

Miroku handed Kagome back his blanket. "I don't need it," he told
her. "Sango-san and I can share one." Miroku put his arm around Sango's
waist, and then a little further down.

"No thanks," said Sango angrily, efficiently pulling her huge
boomerang off of her back and smacking him with it. Miroku flew across the
room, luckily running into Inu Yasha and not the walls of the shed.

Of course, Inu Yasha wasn't too happy about it. He got out of the
tangled heap he and Miroku formed. He growled, picking up Miroku by the neck
of his robes. "Stop fighting!" Kagome commanded. Inu Yasha ignored her.
"SIT!!" she yelled.

Inu Yasha went down, but took Miroku with him. "Bitch!!" Inu Yasha
yelled, pushing himself up off the floor. Kagome would have reacted quite
violently to the commonly used phrase, if it weren't for the other person who
had been 'sit'ted wasn't getting up.

"Miroku, are you okay?" she asked worriedly.

"He'll be fine," said Sango, unconcerned. "We've done worse to him
when we've caught him peeping at us bathing." They covered Miroku with a
blanket, and left him be. The group made plans to stay at the shed until the
storm cleared up. Then they all chose a spot to sleep, and did so.

Except for two of them. Kagome and Inu Yasha lay back to back.
"Inu Yasha?" querried Kagome. She rolled over to face his still turned back.
When she got no response, she asked, "Are you asleep?"

Inu Yasha rolled over to face her. "No. What did you want?" he
asked her.

She stared at him for a few seconds, before replying, "Nothing," and
rolling back over. Inu Yasha stared at her back a few seconds, before he,
too, turned to stare at the other side of the room.

They lay in silence for a few minutes, before they rolled back over.

"Kagome-"

"Inu Yasha-" they started at the same time. Kagome blushed. "You
first."

"I just wanted to say.." Inu Yasha trailed off, distracted by
Kagome's eyes. He felt like he get lost in them; they were so deep and
intricate, strangely beautiful. Kagome might look like Kikyou, but the two's
eyes showed all the difference. Inu Yasha just stared at Kagome, not being
able to put what he wanted to say into words.

Inu Yasha had the same effect on Kagome. She just stared into his
golden eyes, glowing brightly in the darkness. Inu Yasha involuntarily
reached over, brushing a hair out of Kagome's face. Kagome opened her mouth
to speak, when she felt a sharp prick. She slpped the side of her neck.

When she held her hand out, she discovered the squished perpetrator.
"Myouga!!!" The angry couple glared at the little flea demon, who popped up
to his normal shape.

He looked faintly guilty. "I just wanted a drink with the show.." he
said, trailing off as Inu Yasha got a homicidal glint in the eyes that Kagome
had been staring into only seconds ago. He reached forward to grab Myouga,
but Myouga jumped out of the way, and Inu Yasha grabbed something a whole
lot.. softer.

"SIT!!!!!" yelled Kagome. By then, everyone was awake. They figured
that it was probably another of Kagome and Inu Yasha's regular fights, and
just curled back up and went to sleep. "You pervert!" Kagome screamed.

In his sleep, Miroku muttered, "I swear! I didn't do anything this
time, Sango!"

"Wait!" said Inu Yasha. "It was Myou-"

"SITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSITSIT!!!!!"
Kagome yelled. It was a long and painful night for Inu Yasha, who was so
hurt from all those 'sit's in a row that he couldn't move.

*EL FIN*

Author's Notes:
When I saw the challenge, I thought that it would the perfect opportunity to
either do a nice sappy piece with Inu Yasha and Kagome, or to do a comedic
one. I decided to just try and balance the two. I would appreciate it if
you told me how you thought I did here.
