It wouldn't even have mattered this much, if a child had not been a result of the adultery. He could have simply killed her, and her "beloved" mate if it weren't for that particular complication. All of Vegeta-sei had known of the happily awaited child. There was already a male heir, so the fact that the child would be a girl was not considered to be a drawback. Even Vegeta-ouji had been kind of happy he was going to have a half-sister. When Celeres had not died in child birth like Vegeta-ouji's mother, it had seemed that nothing could go wrong. His assumption was quickly dispelled.
They hadn't even known that the child was not Vegeta-ou's until the customary gene test. Vegeta still could not decide if that test had been a blessing or a curse. Why they didn't have the test before the other traditional ceremonies, Vegeta did not know. However, he would be sure to change that. Not that it would help much now, though. Vegeta had already sworn the Oaths. To raise the child to be strong, to protect her until she could protect herself, to only harm her if she did not push herself to be the best, to kill her only if she was too weak.
Celeres had always been strong, and her strength had been passed to her daughter. The Oaths kept him from killing the girl, but about half the Saiya-jin population demanded nothing less than the death of Celeres, Patote, and their daughter. The other half believed that the Oaths should be upheld. Whatever he chose, civil war would be the result. King Vegeta could come up with no solution to the problem. His musings were interrupted, however, as an explosion rocked the palace.
Vegeta-ou jumped to his feet. That explosion had come from Celeres' quarters! Vegeta-ouji, Celeres, and Vegi were in there right now! Vegeta took off towards Celeres' rooms, hoping he would not be too late. It mattered not if Celeres died, he would have had to kill her anyway. And it would be to his advantage if Vegi did... But Prince Vegeta was his only heir. If something happened to him... Vegeta-ou ran all the more faster.
"Don't act so put upon, this is the fault of yourself and that commoner." spat Vegeta-ouji at Celeres, voicing aloud her last thought.
Celeres smiled weakly. "I know. I was just worried about Vegi-"
Vegeta cut her off. "Don't talk use that name for that brat! That name is fit only for royalty, and she is nothing but the bastard child of a treasonous act between you and a filthy, third-class, good for nothing-"
Vegeta himself was cut off by an explosion, that ripped the doors off the hinges of Celeres' room, and threw him forward. Vegi's crib was pushed over by the force of the blast, and she tumbled out. A group of saiya-jin men ran into the room. One of them picked Celeres up by the throat and slammed her against the wall. "Where is that abomination you dared to try and pass off as one of the royal family?!!"
Vegeta-ouji appeared next to them, and kicked the man in the throat. He let go of Celeres, and fell down to the ground, choking and holding his throat. The other saiya-jin looked at Vegeta in surprise. "O-Ouji!" stuttered one of them, "We knew not you were here! Worry not, we are only delivering the king's vengeance, and crushing that evil being that tried to pass it off as one of the family royal."
Prince Vegeta turned to glare at them, crossing his arms in a gesture that would in later days become his trademark. "It is my father's decision how his "vengeance", as you put it, will be carried out. Leave now, before he decides to turn it on you."
As Vegeta-ouji finished speaking, Vegeta-ou himself rushed into the room. All of the Saiya-jin immediately bowed to the ground. "My liege! We can expl-!" One started. The king did not give him a chance to, and immediately incinerated the rebellious saiya-jins.
He then turned to his son. Seeing him unharmed, Vegeta-ou nodded to himself. "No son of mine will be brought down by a few weakling saiya-jins." The prince smirked in response. King Vegeta looked around the room, seeing Celeres fine, if a little shaken.
"Y-your majesty," she greeted, kneeling.
Vegeta-ou ignored her, looking around the room for Vegi. He turned to his son. "I am assuming they killed Celeres' offspring?"
The prince shook his head. "No. They didn't have a chance."
King Vegeta directed a glare towards Celeres. He had only one word for her. "Where." Celeres, meanwhile, had been looking frantically around the room.
"She's gone!" Celeres half-wailed. She looked near tears. Celeres spotted the over-turned cradle. "She must have wandered off!"
"Calm down, woman!" roared the king. "I will find the child."
"Thank you," said Celeres, gratitude showing on her face.
Vegeta-ou looked disgusted at the woman's display of emotion. It was obvious in more than just her treasony that he had chosen wrong for a mate. She was not a true saiyajin, and was made truly weak by her emotions, no matter how strong her body might be. "I'm not doing this for you, woman. The Oaths require it." He stalked out of the room, motioning for the prince to follow.
She stopped by a room, as she overheard a shout from within. "Ouch!! Quit biting!!! Vicious thing!! No wonder you're being send on a purging mission! Not only are you weak, you're such a pain, no one wants you!!" The saiya-jin loading the baby saiya-jin in a pod strapped him in, then walked out of the room the pods were being launched from, and headed toward the control room.
Vegi snuck into the room, and climbed up into the pod the other child was in. They looked at each other a second, and seemed to come to an instant understanding. Vegi gave him a look that said "I'll help get you out of here." She started chewing on the boy's restraints, loosening them so he could escape. Vegi had just gotten him free of the restraints, when the lid to the pod suddenly closed over them. The two children looked at each other, and the same thought went through their heads. It went something along the lines of "uh-oh..."
The pod launched, with both Vegi and the boy stuck inside.
As Vegi finally managed to stumble to her feet, it was already too late. Son Gohan walked up to her and Kakorotto. "What have we here?" he questioned, picking up the two before they could run away. Kakorotto, not liking someone holding him, viciously bit into Gohan's arm. "OW!!" exlaimed Gohan. His arm hurt, and was even bleeding, but he still didn't let go.
Gohan didn't know where the children had come from exactly, but he decided to take care of them. They were still just babies. Gohan glanced at the pod, then at the two's tails. He shook his head. He had stumbled upon a great mystery.
The little boy on the other hand... He didn't speak in anything other than snarls and growls. The boy didn't know his name, and Gohan wasn't sure if he even had one yet. So he named him Goku. Goku was vicious baby, and bit Gohan any opportunity he got.
Gohan sighed. He just hoped Vegi and Goku were careful and avoided the cliff. He was no longer concerned about the river, and them falling in. They had taken to the water like fish. But Gohan knew that they couldn't mimic birds. The very idea that they might ever be able to fly was proposterous.
Gohan's thoughts were cut off by a scream. It was over by the cliff! Gohan ran as fast as he could, knowing that he would still be too late. Gohan reached the cliff to find the top empty. By the time he climbed down to the bottom he was crying. While the two children had been loads of trouble, Gohan had come to love them as his own children. To his astonishment, when he reached them, they weren't dead. Goku was sitting up, dazed. Vegi was just opening her eyes.
Gohan didn't know how, but a miracle had happened. They were okay. "Thank goodness you're alright!" The two turned to look at him, but there was no recognition in their eyes.
