Oh Dear God…

       By: Aeris (FlowerGirlAeris1@aol.com)

Beyond the grave, I watch over my closest friends…

They were the closest things to a family I had.

My adoptive mother, Elmyra Gainsborough, she was too kind. She took in a stranger’s child, and treated it as her own.

Oh Dear God, watch over her once I am gone…

I watch over Cloud and Tifa- the first two AVALANCHE members I ever met. They’ve gone off now to start a new life. And as for me… As for me… I give them my blessings. They make such a perfect couple.

Oh Dear God, watch over those two, and their children, when the time comes, once I am gone…

Barret… now there’s someone you could trust. My mom watched his little girl, Marlene. And I saw their reunion from here, in the Lifestream. I’ve never seen Barret cry, even at my time of passing, he fought the tears. But he wept happiness when he saw his little girl again. I’m happy for them too. He’s also helping to rebuild North Corel.

Oh Dear God, watch over Barret and his little girl, once I am gone…

Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie… I saw them briefly when I arrived here. They’ve already gone off to the Promised Land.

Yes, even humans are allowed there.

Oh Dear God, protect them even in death, once I am gone…

Red XIII, or Nanaki… oh, I can’t believe I was so scared of him the first day I met him. Just because he was different… and I wasn’t one to talk. I’m not exactly human, either. Well, he’s gone back to guard over Cosmo Canyon. He misses his grandfather, Bugenhagen. He’s also waiting in the Promised Land. Nanaki is such a good friend; I was lucky to have met him. He was just as human as the rest of my friends. He studies about his race a lot, hoping to find more like him.

Oh Dear God, watch over him and guide him, once I am gone…

Yuffie… oh that girl is so mischievous! I remember when we first encountered her, how she tried to get our materia, and how she begged to come with us in the end… I think I feel tears coming… oh, I mustn’t cry. There is no sadness.

Well, Yuffie finally stood up to her father, and said firmly, “No more, daddy. I’m sick of stealing. I won’t do it anymore!” And her father was pretty mad… but he got over it. Now Yuffie is honest, and works as a apprentice to the weapon shop owner.

Oh Dear God, watch over Yuffie, and help her stay on the steady road she is on, once I am gone…

Cid… the warmhearted, foulmouthed pilot. Well, Cid finally realized he liked Shera a lot more than just a maid. They’re dating now, and Cid’s ready to pop the question. He’s been ready for ages now. I read his mind… quite literally. I feel so ashamed for doing so too. Well, I won’t tell anyone.

Oh Dear God, help those two keep a steady relationship, once I am gone…

Vincent… he didn’t talk very much. But I know now all he’s gone through. The poor man, no wonder he doesn’t like to talk.

Well, he’s gone on what one might call an atonement quest. He helps those in need of help, travels around the globe, making up for his sins. But, Lucrecia has already forgiven him. Yes, I spoke to her, as well. Holy cleansed the Jenova from her body, and she is in the Promised Land.

Oh Dear God, watch over Vincent on his journey, keep him safe, one I am gone…

Cait Sith, or rather, Reeve… well he took over what was left of the Shin-Ra Corporation, and turned into a more Planet-friendly organization. No makou use is permitted; he has ordered the demolish of every makou reactor on the Planet. He promotes solar, hydro, and wind electricity, which take nothing from the Planet. I praise him for that; they may have a chance for peace.

Oh Dear God, watch over him, keep his thoughts good and sane, and help him, once I am gone…

And then there is Sephiroth… once Holy had emerged, it had erased whatever was left of Jenova within him. The Planet had forgiven him, because… well, I prayed for more than Holy up at that altar… I prayed for Sephiroth’s soul. No being deserves to be ridiculed for something not of his or her own doing. I had been told of his origins, and what his so-called ‘father’ had done to him. And now, he has been granted the Promised Land…

Oh Dear God, watch over him, keep him sane, even in death, once I have gone to join him, and the others.

I go now; I have been waiting for months…

I wanted to stay behind, in this space between life and death, to watch over them, my friends, my family.

I summoned the Lifestream itself, and said my final good-bye.

And now, there is no more reason to stay here.

No Meteor.

No War.

No Makou-sucking reactors.

No Jenova.

Nothing… but peace.

I slowly make my way towards the glowing white light, towards everlasting happiness with my loved ones.

With my friends, with Zack, with Sephiroth…

With Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie…

With my mother and father…

With Tseng and even Rufus, who have both seen the err of their ways.

And, as I pass on, I say a final, silent prayer…

Oh Dear God, watch over all of them. And once their times come, lead them to the Promised Land.

I have found mine already…

I smile as I enter my eternal home, as my parents greet me with hugs.

I grin as I see my friends gathered around, greeting me with their happy smiles.

I hold back tears of joy.

And I say a silent good-bye to my friends on the other side.

Do not worry about me anymore…

…Because, I have found my Promised Land, at last.

The last Cetra has found her final resting place…

Winning means… no more pain…”
