Keiichi Morisato is your average japanese college student dorming at his auto club's appartment. He doesn't have much luck with girls, and is short, which he complains about a lot. All of this changes when accidently calls the goddess helpline while trying to order take out. The Godddess Belldandy almost instantly shows up at his door, and offers him a wish to better his life. Keiichi doesn't believe her and wishes for her to be his girlfriend forever. Sparks fly, and there is the start of a soap opera-ish story. Many trials and tribulations lie ahead trying to dissrupt thier relationship, and until the last minute, your not sure if they'll be happy or not.
From begginning to end Ah! my Goddess rely's on its colorfull, and beautiful character designs. One of the neatest things about the characters is that as the series goes on the characters appearences begin to mature. for example the longer Belldandy is with Keiichi, the more taste in style keiichi begins to get. Moving on to setting animation, more detail could have been used. These setting designs is what makes Ah! my goddess look like an older title. But don't let that get you down, because it is an older series, and the character animation is good enough to not make you care anyhow.
What a comedy / Romance series needs most is a cast of characters that can generate smiles, as well as tears. Ah! my goddess covers most of these factors with a very lovable cast of characters. Keiichi is the main role, who I was constantly feeling bad for. The goddess characters Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld are names based off of japanese mythology, altho their characters probably have nothing to do with them. Belldandy is always cheerful, Urd is the troublemaker / domenitrix, and Skuld is the childish, complainer. Other than main characters, there is also a wide variety of supporting characters.
J-Pop in this series is mostly 80's sounding happy love songs, which at first i didn't really care for. Altho after a while, like all J-Pop, it began to grow on me. The instramental music, is mostly sad mood music, that frequently goes very well with the scenes. Finnaly, the voice actors goes extremely well with each character. A lot of depth is added is well.
The main source of entertainment is actually watching just about everything go wrong, and hoping that it will get better. The first episode is kind of bittersweet, but as the series goes on, and new characters are added, each episode gains alittle more depth and background. Slow spots, are few and far between, and for the most part, each episode should grasp yout attention. Another great romance series.
