Like the previous series', BGC2040 still follows the same format of pitting the Knight Sabers against wild robots, this time around being called "boomers." It's pretty much the same story background, but with a new twist. (Kinda like that new pepsi!) The leader of these girls now works at a "feminen Clothing" store. It is all of this girls internal struggles with her father, and the past that make up the pretty interesting story line. Although all in all, it wasn't all that interesting to me, and by the time I got past the 6th episode, the more changes that occured just became that much more tedious. But thats just me.
Where I thought the series lacked in story line, it made up for it in animation. You can definatly tell the new-age animation that was used throughout. Once you watch the opening intro, your sure to be giving credit to the animators. Setting animation is very crisp and clear, and for the majority of the series, the lighting plays a key role in the moods of the show. Lastly fight scenes, (as short as they usually are in the beginning of the series,) Look very, very nice. Probably the best show-off to the animation is when Priss is riding her super robot bike near the end.
Hmmmm Characters, well as for there animation, I would have to give them an 11 on a scale of 10. Sylia is one more of those fricken' awesome anime-babes that just help the cast of characters that much more! Besides the looks, the characters of BGC2040 have a very nice balance. Linna is the hard working over-achiever, Priss is the bad-ass , Nene is the hilarious comic relief, and Sylia is the confused / Slightly insane leader of the pack. There is also a wide variety of bad guys, and sub characters that all play a signifigant role. So in the end, the characters are well balanced, and add a nice mixture to the show.
The music of this show are one more example of it being a new-aged anime. The J-Pop is hard, guitar driving, songs, which aren't the best, but are pretty catchy the first couple times you hear them. As for the insramental, it includes everything from hard rock, to an interesting blend of some of the strangest techno I've ever heard. So I guess you can say it has an industrial soundtrack. (So much better than that 80's trash from the fist two series') Voice acting in english is very well done if your used to the ADV Quality. In Japanese the voice actors are sweet cause half of them were voices in Love Hina. (So you know I love them!)
The all around story of the series wasn't enough to keep me interested in the show, and at first the fight scenes weren't either, but the characters, and some of there sub-stories, envolving inner struggles was pretty entertaining. As the show goes on, the characters grow on you, and a lot of elements in the story change, and the show did get a lot better. When the last fight starts to happen, the show was at it's peak. I didn't really care for the ending of the show tho. It really doesn'y explain much, and goes into absolutly no detail in what happenes to the characters. But the wierdness of it at least left a lasting impression of the show.
Story An ever changing story line about girls in hard-suits vs. strange robots. Although nothing special. |
