“How powerful is it?”, her uncle looked worried. Her uncle rarely looked worried. Nikita was kneeling in front of the door, looking through the keyhole. The only way she ever really knew what was going on around here is what she heard from this room. Denny had come straight home to report to her uncle the news. She thought her uncle would’ve been excited as her with the new doll, but instead he looked wary and suspicious. “Its one of the most powerful I’ve ever seen. It could wipe out a troop of Oz forces.”, Denny informed him excitedly. Nikita waited for her uncle’s response. He sat for a moment, concentrating hard, while Denny and Nikita waited breathlessly. Eventually he nodded, and Nikita let out a whoop of joy. Denny and Uncle Wally both looked to the door. Nikita covered her mouth with her hands, but it was too late. “Nikita! What do you think you are doing?”, her Uncle roared. The door flew opened and Denny was glaring at her. “I just wanted to see what your decision was going to be about the new doll.” she told him truthfully. Uncle Wally turned to glare at Denny. “How does she know about this?”, he yelled at him now. “She was there when I got the message. She doesn’t know the location though, don’t worry.” Denny calmed him. “Uncle, I can pilot that doll! It was practically made for me. It’s so beautiful Uncle, and If you put an old soldier in it, he wont know what to do with it!”, Nikita begged her Uncle. He shook his head, his mind set on the matter. “No, your aunt would never forgive me if I let you pilot that thing.”, he told her. Nikita tried her pout, but it didn’t work on him. “Uncle, please!”, she begged. Her Uncle silenced her with a glare. He turned back to Denny, “Go ahead and retrieve the doll. Bring it back here, but keep out of sight. No one is to know we have this doll.”, he ordered him, Denny nodded and turned to obey. He winked at Nikita as he walked out. Nikita sighed, annoyed and flopped down in her uncle’s elegant leather chair. “I found some info about what you were talking about this morning Kita. Apparently whomever you talked to knocked out Leslie and Harold when they came on their morning shifts. Nikita’s eyes widened, “Do you think it was OZ?’, she asked. Her uncle nodded. “If I didn’t think it wasn’t, we wouldn’t be getting that doll.”, he told her. Nikita gasped. “Uncle! That doll is beautiful, and you would just let it go unused?”, she asked him shocked. Her uncle gave her a look. “What’s this Nikita? You are infatuated with a weapon? That is unlike you.”, he studied her. Nikita blushed, and looked down. “I don’t know uncle. I looked at his doll, and…It reminded me of my parents.”, she told him, her eyes looking into his. Her uncle looked confused. “I don’t know, I can’t explain it. But when I look at that doll, I see an opportunity to somehow make peace with their deaths.”, she sighed heavily. Her uncle frowned. “Its strange, I know.”, she lowered her head. He smiled encouragingly know and walked over to pat her back fondly. “ Don’t worry Nikita, eventually all of this will make sense to you, it just might be a little confusing and hard at first. But you have to keep fighting.”, he lifted her head to look up at him. “Promise me you’ll always keep fighting. “, he smiled down at her. She smiled back up, her eyes filled with tears, and nodded. “I promise. “, she kissed the top of his hand in a daughterly way.
“Nikita I like the red one, it brings out your hair. ”, her aunt decided. Nikita sighed and let her aunt pick out yet another dress of many for her to try on. She had to go with her aunt for the planned dress shopping, now that Denny was off to pick up the new doll. She took the dress grudgingly and walked back to the dressing room. She was wondering if Denny was having any trouble picking up the doll. “Nikita, try on this black one too, you look stunning in black.”, her aunt’s voice floated down to her. Nikita almost growled. Her aunt was going on about dresses when Denny might be in trouble. “I don’t want any stupid dress!”, she opened the door and flung it out. “Kita!”, her aunt looked shocked. Nikita immediately felt bad, but she sat and glowered in the corner instead of apologizing. Her aunt’s eyes narrowed and she knew she was in for it. “Just because you’re worried about Denny doesn’t mean you can take it out on me.”, her aunt told her steadily. Nikita’s eyes widened. “You know about Denny?”, she asked. H er aunt rolled her cool blue eyes, “Of course I do, you don’t actually believe I don’t know what’s going on around here do you?’. Nikita just stared at her, shocked. Her aunt laughed. “Oh, I know all about you and Denny practicing fighting and him teaching you to how to pilot those awful dolls.”, she went on as she picked up the dress. “You do?”, Nikita asked. Her aunt nodded. “I never disapproved of you learning how to fight, I think it is an important skill to know. I just didn’t want you to forget your other qualities.”, she told her as she handed back the dress. Nikita took it automatically. “Other qualities?’, Nikita questioned. Her aunt sighed and sat down beside her. “There’s not only brawn you know, there’s also brains and beauty.”, her aunt started like a Greek philosopher Nikita stared at her, amazed. Her aunt chuckled. “Don’t look too amazed darling.”, she laughed. “I don’t want you to forget that, Nikita,” her aunt continued as she helped Nikita into the black dress. “You are beautiful, and you can use that just as much as strength.”, her aunt pulled her hair away from the dress. They stood before a mirror, and her aunt smiled. Nikita did look nice in the dress. “Promise me, you’ll never forget your beauty. It can serve you well.”, her aunt was solemn. Nikita smiled and nodded. Joe drove into the long driveway, Nikita and her aunt lounging in the back of the car from their long day of shopping. Nikita decided to listen to the radio so she crawled up to the front seat next to Joe. “Oh, I love this song!”, she turned up the radio and her aunt laughed. Maybe if Nikita hadn’t move up to the front, all of her pain and suffering would've had ended there. But that just isn't how it went down. While Nikita sang along, tapping to the beat, a sudden explosion on the property made Joe squeal to a halt. Nikita braced herself against the dashboard, and looked around wildly. Then she saw it, a glimpse through the trees. She gasped. The Angel? She scrambled out of the car as her aunt yelled furiously at her. She ran through the wooded property, to an open war ground. Two troops of unknown soldiers were attacking the new mobile doll. Denny had to be the pilot. Uncle? Nikita looked around wildly. Then she saw the house, charred and smoldering. She almost cried out loud from the sight. She ran to it, trying to stay out of sight, but Denny was distracting them enough. Nikita could hardly run from all of the rumblings of the dolls in battle. She made it to the house and looked for her uncle. She saw something huddled in the back of the ashes. “Uncle!”, she screamed. She ran to it and dropped down, getting covered in ash. He was charred and bleeding, Nikita almost gagged from the smell of burnt skin. “Oh uncle..”, she moaned, tears falling down her face. “Kita…”, her uncle could barely speak. He placed something in her hands, she looked down to see what it was. It was the grant to full ownership and command of the Jones army. Nikita was confused, Denny was suppose to have this. She assumed her uncle wanted her to give it to him. “Love…”, her uncle whispered, before dying in her arms. Nikita was stunned, not believing that it happened. “Uncle?”, she shook him, and moaned when some of his skin flaked off. She whimpered and set him down gently. She musn't let her aunt see this. She looked back up, at the on going war. Denny had an advantage, but he was using the doll all wrong. Then a deep thud behind made her heart drop to her stomach. She looked behind her, and an enemy doll stood there, gun in hand. It picked her up like a toy and Nikita screamed as it sliced her ribs. That got Denny’s attention. She could hear him through the communications. “ Nikita!”, he turned to go to her, but another enemy troop got in his way. “Surrender Daniel Jones, or the girl dies.”, the doll’s voice didn't sound human. Denny hesitated, but he lowered his weapon. The lead doll laughed maniacally. “I will kill her anyways.”, it boasted as it raised its gun to do the deed. Nikita screamed, but it was cut off as an Electro arrow pierced the doll’s chest. “Wha?”, the doll looked down confused. Nikita looked around until she saw the archer. Her proper aunt was covered in ash, her hair wild her and her face covered with tears. She held the bow she taught Nikita how to shoot so long ago in her hands. “Aunt Avvie!”, Nikita screamed as her aunt raised the bow again. One of the enemy troops fired on her, and her body jostled with the impacts of the bullets. Nikita screamed. Her aunt still stood, blood covering her. She held the bow proudly, raised her eyes challengingly and released the arrow,. It pierced the doll holding Nikita arm socket, breaking his hold on her. Nikita fell to the ground, just in time to see her aunt riddled with bullets once more. Nikita sobbed, as her aunt fell to the ground. She heard Denny scream as well, and she anticipated his blind raging attack. She ducked and covered as Denny let ammo shells fall to the ground, bullets filled the air. The enemy troops covered him with a return attack. Nikita felt herself again be lifted off the ground, by the same doll as before .He held with his good arm left, and squeazed her so she screamed. Denny turned back to her, and Nikita felt ashamed. “Let her go!”, Denny roared. “If you turn over the doll. I will release her when you surrender”, the doll croaked in return. “No Denny! Don’t!”, Nikita screamed at him, willing him to obey her. But the doll came to a stop and Denny emerged. Nikita sobbed. Denny jumped down from the doll and walked towards them. The doll crackled with laughter and he dropped Nikita to the ground. It walked to Denny, and he stood bravely to face it. Nikita stumbled to them, her hands out stretched to ry and help, but she could do nothing. The doll raised his gun and fired, and Denny fell back, a bloom of red in the bright blue sky,.The doll walked past as Denny fell to the ground, heading for the Gundam Angel. Nikita ran to Denny. “No! Oh God Denny!”, she moaned. She clutched him ti her. Denny was muttering something but she couldn’t hear him, “What?’, she leaned down. “ I called her Eve; she looked so tempting. She caused all this, because I accepted, like the apple.”, he was rambling. Nikita looked at him confused. He pulled out a small control device that was now covered in blood. “Denny?’, Nikita breathed. He pressed it, and an EMP (electromagneticpulse) flooded through the area, causing all of the mobile dolls to short out, save the Gundam Angel. It was immune to such an attack. Nikita looked around dazed, at all of the dolls trembling on the ground, electric currents running through their body. “Go…”, she looked back down to Denny. His brown eyes were dulling, going limp. “No!”, Nikita clutched him harder, hugging him to her. “Denny!”, she cried as he left her. She didnt know how long she sat there, clutching Denny like a broken toy. But when the dolls started to move agina, Nikita numbly went into action. She released Denny, laying him gently on the ground. She ran to the Gundam Angel, and crawled up its side to get to the cockpit door. She encountered a password check and she thought wildly for the right word. What would Denny choose? “I called her Eve…”…Nikita typed in Eve with one hand and waited breathlessly. The dolls started to stand, reloading their weapons. “Permission granted.”, a robotic voice told her as the cockpit door slid open. She fell into it, adjusting the straps hastily. The cockpit door slammed closed just as bullets rained down on her. She quickly got a feel for the doll, her hands gripping the controls easily. She held up her gun, and fired, a string of bullets shot out. They took out the first line, hitting the weak joints of the dolls, causing their limbs to explode off. She pulled the larger gun from behind the doll, that was attached to its back. She fired, and a lazer ray ripped through about ten dolls, exploding three. The dolls had reformed, and readied their weapons to a frontal fire. She gripped the controls and the giant wings that made the angel shot out and in front of her, protecting her from the worst of the barage. Blood dripped into her eye and she wondered whose it was, but didn’t let it distract her from the fight. She opened fire on the dolls as soon as her wings pulled back. She took out a majority with the surprise attack. When there were only five left, she turned and looked for the leader, the one who shot Denny. She caught a glimpse of him making his way east. She grenade launched the final five, destroying almost all of the surrounding forest. She abled flight maneuvers and took off after him. She piloted the doll to switch into flight mode, and soon she was flying. She didn’t have time to enjoy the beauty of it, her heart was raging and torn inside, but the wall of ice she built around it contained her composure. She had to finish him first. She got him on target locked. “For Denny and my family you bastard!”, she screamed as she shot the missiles. They flew through the air like guided birds and the doll exploded off the screen. Nikita flew the doll a few more miles away, just to be sure. And took refuge in the hills. She had got out and fell under the apple tree, unable to stop crying. She cried for hours until finally she rested in the great tree’s shade. Now Nikita stood, her heart once again ice, and her eyes dry. She looked at the Angel, as the blaze rose behind it. “You are my angel.”, she whispered to it. “My angel of revenge, you are my Eve.” The sirens wailed softly, the city glowed and war started. An apple fell to the ground.
