This is an awsome strategy game! I've been playing with the R. D. S. ever since I plunged into the wide world of strategy and RPG board games. It's definatly one of the most fun things you can do, but by no means am I saying go out and buy an army...
I say this for several reasons, and the main one is that it is expensive. I've been collecting for about 2 years and I'm still getting new crap all the time!
Another is that you don't wanna plunge in because you might not be happy with your army. I started out by borrowing my friend Deathshrimp's Space Marine Terminators. I can remember them now, all standard issue, but i still kicked ass. I found that I wanted an army with more finess and tactics then brute and simple strength. Thus I was drawn in by the Eldar, and I was a fitting general (being as pansy as my troups). But i won nonetheless!...
As I was saying, there are many reasons (and many armies).
Warhammer 40k
Our future is a grim one. War comes from every corner of the oblivion of space which we long ago learned to travel. The savage fungus people Orcs scavenge all; The cruel and unthinking Tyranids have come into the highest forms of evoloution; The arrogant and highly advanced Eldar fight for a corner of space which they may be free to call home; The twisted Chaos gods have seduced Eldar and Space Marines for thier own representation on the gory field of battle; The only consellation humans have is the Space Marines (with the puny Imperial Guard and Laughable Sisters-Of-Battle)...
In the grim future there is no compainionship, no help, no quarter. In the Grim Future, There is Only WAR!
Well is'nt that special?? Thats just my lil intro for all the races...
My Army I have a developed army of Eldar, and i even got one of those neat lil Titans before that one company closed! I've won about 65% of my battles, and that is prety impressive since I'm not exactly a newby. The most useful units I have are...
Guardians The standard troop. They aren't the best, but I've seen worse ( ahem termagants ahem-hem ). They don't have that bad of armor, (5+) but what do you expect? They're just normal troopers! Citizens! we aren't talkin pansy wansy Space Marines here!...(Sorry Death Shrimp)...
Warp Spiders
My favorite unit is definatly the Warp Spider. They are fast, well-armoured, and definatly pack a punch. They are Elites, but all of the good troopers are. With thier Warp Packs, these are definatly killing machines. Why, once I took out an entire squad of space marines with just 1! (deathshrimp calls it luck, I call it fate...)
Striking Scorpions
Another good ol' Aspect warrior. Unlike the Warp Spider, these are hand to hand fighters, and ones to be reckoned with. One should'nt take thier eyes if the Mandibles of the scorpians, I'll tell you.
Wraithlord
The Elder Dreadnaught isn't something to be taken lightly. It has good movement, good range, good armor, good weapons, and its better then the others (costs less too)...
well, that is just a little idea of some of the troops I have... I also have a titan ( my pride and joy)
Other Armies
if the Eldar dont float your boat, dont bitch and moan, there are plenty other armies to enjoy...
Tyranids
One of my most respected enemies. They can rip, tear, shoot, and shred an armie to peices... The feared Hive Tyrant, the unstoppable Carnifex, the mind destroying Zoanthrope, along with the underling Termagants and many more, these are a force to be reckoned with.
One of the main people I've played before (Bugman V2) is Tyranid... And looks like one too!..hehe...
Space Marines
The Guardians of the Universe...(not like anything WANTS to be guarded..) They strike with slowed assurance, but the blow is crushing... The Space Marines are the Jacks-of-All-Trades in the universe. They can be a force to be reckoned with, if using the right troops against the right armie...
