Hopes and dreams of the New Millenium I asked what you thought of they new millenium, what you wanted, hoped or dreamed the new millenium would be like and here are the results. The future to me means a new start for the world. A chance to clean up pollution, end poverty and land destruction, and conquer human and animal rights. The millennium means a clean slate, so let's try to clean up the world! -Carine T I look forward and I'm worried. It all depends on how we handle things. If we concentrate only on progress, progress, progress and forget to clean up messes in the past, then yeah, I'm worried. But if we devote our time to both fixing mistakes AND making new good things, then it's gonna be a great millennium!!! -Yui H I am always thinking about what lies ahead of me. What can I look forward to in the future? I'm a freshman in High School so I think alot about what I want to do with the rest of my life. I'm only going to be 15 when the millennium changes. I'm always concerned about the condition of your planet and hope that we will learn to take better care of where we live. As for my future I have no set plan. -Cate H I'm excited about the possibility of loads of new inventions. There might be cures for more sicknesses. New technology and tons of stuff like that. -Rachel B Well, I'm worried. Really worried. Not nervous breakdown, but definitely worried. How can someone not be worried about that kind of stuff? You can't live without natural resources. Pollution can mess up the natural resources, which is almost as bad as there being no natural resources. There will always be crime, but it has gotten worse. I'm not too worried about crime. -Kris L Well, I know I'm pretty excited about new technologies and opportunities, and being an adult. But I also think about the flip side. More smoking, drugs, guns, knifes, other violence; pollution, extinction... Overall, though, I think the future will be really great! -Sarah G I think we need to do something about pollution. It is killing hundreds of animals. If we stop using pollutants maybe we can stop some pollution. -Derrick G I guess when I think about the future, I consider all the new technology we'll have. In twenty-five years we might have flying cars and New York City might look like that city in the Fifth Element. Think about it. Twenty-five years ago, people were wearing the ugliest fashions ever to walk the earth and still dancing to the disco duck. In 1975, space travel was still only a decade or so old. Now, even though we haven't landed on it yet, people are talking about terraforming Mars. In another 25 years, who knows? "We discovered radioactivity in 1896. In 1945 we exploded an atomic weapon. Forty-nine years. In 1903 we flew for the first time. Sixty-six years later, we landed on you moon...Fifty years from now, we will be capable of faster-than-light-travel. One hundred years from now...who knows?" I leave with those words, and these: we are in an age of immense change. Even though we are more machine dependant, I beg you not to forget how to truly live off the land. -Daci J I worry about the depletion of the rain forests and extinction of species that could be an aid in the fight against AIDS, cancer, and other diseases. There is a cure for every disease on Earth; we just need to find it. I do understand that cutting trees may be people in the rainforest's only source of income, but there are other things they could do, such as teaching, or they could get some money and go to school, then become a doctor or something. I'm a little worried about how biological warfare could turn out, because that's just something we won't be able to fix, most likely. Especially if there's a nuclear war. But I am hopeful about the broadening of knowledge in the space field (of course). I think there is hope for finding about how the universe came to be, besides the Big Bang theory, finding the answer to why we were created here, what is after our universe, and other things involving science. I am hopeful of new discoveries, and I think everyone should be too. -??? I am really excited about the new millennium, but I am also worried about the new high-tech stuff because it may cause more factories to be built, and forests and other important animal habitats would be destroyed. Also, this would cause a lot of pollution and cause the whole system to go completely outta whack! But with all these problems, more opportunities will be created, especially for us girls. There will be more jobs for us and maybe even someday a girl President! All in all, I am really looking forward to the new millennium, because I think life will be improved and there's lots and lots to look forward to. -Sabrina K I think that once we enter the future, we will have both good and bad things going on. We will have medical scientists who will find cures to things like cancer and AIDS, computer scientists, who will create digital phones on computers and TV on computers, and then we will have the bad things. More crime, but hey, that might be cleaned up by better police forces with more technology, more pollution, which again, with the right technology, we could clean up, and less natural resources, which, we can find alternatives if we try hard enough, so that we can give our resources a chance to flourish. -Stephanie H The future is full of possibilities. Possibilities to help, and to harm. Scientists can do things that, until a few years ago, were thought to be impossible, like cloning animals and creating even better computers, and medicines, and weapons. These new inventions can improve technology... or destroy the planet. When I grow up, which, I assure you, will not be for a long time, it will be our responsibility to use the new technology responsibly, and not blow the whole planet up. Also will be the chance to help the sorry state in which the ozone layer and other natural resources are in, along with the other social problems such as pollution and crime. The future has many new and better opportunities for all of us, but we also will have to take on the responsibility of a planet, and a future. -Eileen K The arrival of an alien species , to bring peace to Earth would be nice. They could teach us how to play and have fun and just quit worrying about stupid things. As impossible as that is, that is what I would like to see happen in the next millennium. -Stephanie S I want world peace like no wars and fighting. Also I don't want people to get drunk and start yelling at other people -Amber L In the next millennium, I want to see the re-creation (for real) of extinct animal and plant species, the re-planting of tropical rainforests, cure for cancer, end of pollution, end of homelessness, world hunger.... Ok, people? I'm not complaining, but I think you'd all agree with me when I say we have a LOT of work to do! -Yui H Perhaps for world peace, less violence, and less drugs. Those are what really should happen, but probably won't, in that short period of time. I know that everything can not be accomplished, because there is always that one person who doesn't want to cooperate, who want's to got there own way. That one person will do something to jeopardize what we have, and most likely will get others to join them. It is not likely for what I want to happen, but one can have their hopes....dreams...and imaginations...... -Skye T In the next millennium, I would like a sentient alien species to be discovered. I would hope that they are peaceful and can offer new, helpful, technology. -Chris B I think that in the new millennium cars will fly. Armchairs will have a built-inrefrigerator and changer. Instead of having paperboys and girls, they willbuild droids to work for them. Last, but not least, food will be in squeeze tubes. -Andrew M It would be cool if in the next Millennium we figured out faster than light travel. -Tori B I would like to see the ozone problem cleared up. It would be great to have a cleared up ozone. In fact, if we did this, we could turn a planet like Mars and make it more like Earth. -Tiger J In the next millennium I hope to see: Morphing Technology, Space Travel & Space Ships. Genetics mastered - new made to order pets! That would be cool! But I don't think we'll have time-travel, I think that's impossible, though I may be wrong. I also hope that we've learned to use the rest of out brain capacity and we're able to use telepathy and telekinesis (I think that's spelled correctly). What a cool place Earth would be. -Xander D I would like to see people help animals more in the future so that none of them will go extinct because I would like to see all the animals when I become a biologist. I also want to see the animals grow into other kinds of animals and see how cool they'll look then. -Joshua I In the double z's, I hope to see peace. There is nothing I want more for all the 6 billion people that live on this planet than peace. If we have peace, then maybe we can help each other work on other important issues like hunger, or unsanitary conditions, and stuff like that. Peace. Just peace. Especially in the Middle East. -Ragtime K For the millennium I'd like to see humans actually treat animals with respect. There've been a lot of cases of animal abuse. I wish that would stop. Also I wish that humans would help all the endangered species, so they don't get extinct. We should also help the plants. Without plants we would die from lack of oxygen. So, remember to recycle and reuse.Please... -Emily L In the next millennium, I think I would like to see a few things. This may sound sappy, but here goes... I would like to see people getting over whatever petty differences are making them gun each other down, and I'd like to see the full disarmament of all nuclear weapons (and all other weapons of "mass destruction"). There it is. Sappy? Sort of. Unrealistic? Probably. Something positive to look forward to? Definitely. -Ben L In the millennium I would like to see all the countries unite and world peace form. Also, I would like to see everyone depending on everybody else - as in there is no money, just people working on different jobs and contributing to the world. Everything would be free! . -YrkH8er A I think it would be highly cool if we actually achieved SPACE FLIGHT. I mean, you know, better than we have now. Then we'd have all these yuppies out zipping around space. -Ashley G In the next millennium I would like to see many things. This is a list of the top three things. 1. Less pollution 2. Less wars and hunger and more peace. 3. Lots of new inventions and technology. -Nicole V In the new millennium I would like to see the major advancement of technology. -Rachel J I would like to see all high schools in the same city have the same advantages - same classes - same sports programs. -D R R In the next millennium I would like scientists to find out how to use the other 90% of the human brain. -Peter M I would like to see a girl play in Major League Baseball because girls can do it just as good as boys can. -Katie Z I would like to see a new system different than mankind has ever seen. Where kids don't have to worry about being shot at in school. Where there's peace all over the world and all persons will appreciate and respect one another. -Jonathan B I would like to see in the new millennium people standing up for their neighbors and friends. Grown-ups planting flowers where there isn't any, rich humans sharing their money with the less fortunate and all together humans trying their hardest to make the earth as healthy as possible. -Michelle M I would like to see an end to war and a cure for cancer. I would do anything to end cruelty to animals once and for all! -Meredith M I would like to see the first woman president be elected!! -Monica G I would like everyone to be able to read! -Scott A I would like to see less smoking and drugs because it just ruins lives, friends, and families. -Nick N I would like space flights to begin. I would like the tobacco fields to close down so farmers could grow more fruit and veggies. -Victoria S In the Next Millennium college would be free. -Emily K I would like more electric cars and less gasoline and oil. I want people to pollute less and keep our natural resources. -Zachary Z I wish we could talk or really listen to animals. -Brian D I would like to see the earth's (and galaxy's) wars come to an end. If this happened, then everyone could settle down and unlock the secrets the universe holds...Peace is a long time in the making, but so is a millennium. -John M I'd like to visit Pluto. -Noelle R I would like to see rainforests protected in the next millennium. -Amy S I hope that every kid in the world could learn responsibility. Even though we're just kids, it doesn't mean we couldn't have responsibility to our world. Maybe not protecting the world with weapon in our hand, but with peace and try to stop pollution. -Nadia L More animal homes and less buildings. -Jesus B What I would like to see happen is a cure for all the sicknesses, so young kids with deathly sicknesses can live to their dreams. -Victoria H Peace, because I don't understand why we are always fighting each other. We have to learn to get along together or we won't survive. I would like to see less homeless. There is enough to go around, but we seem to have a problem sharing. -Aviva I I wish that I would see a real alien in the new millennium. -David U In the next millennium I would like to see an end to hatred, war killing, and all violence. -Jen P I want to be safe when I'm outside away from home. -David O More love. -Jessica G In the next millennium I would like scientists to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis because my dad has it. -Anonymous That everyone trades instead of sells or spends. -Amy M I'd like to see less smoking, drug dealing and drinking. -Bethany S I think we should help foreign countries. -Gwen T For kids to stop killing kids at school. -Brooke B I'd like to see no more war in the next millennium. No more people trying to control other people or nations trying to control other nations. -Jill B. I would like people to show more respect to animals and nature. -Brandon B I'd like to find a cure for AIDS. -Joshua R I want to see us stop these petty wars. They aren't worth anything and they just kill people. I want us to, as a whole, stop being morons with an I.Q of 11. -Calix R A cure for birth defects. -Brett A I would like to see peace come to the Middle East at long last. -Dylan W Now take a moment to reflect, notice how many things were repeated. I think the needed changes are clear.
