*A New Darkness. Arise, Sailor Phobos!* By Adrianna.

Ok, the writing in this one kinda sucks, but the story is rather cool. Remember to send comments to Pikamaster@xoom.com. Episode Two of Sailor Moon CH

Three witches stood in a circle around their cauldron. The Dark Spire that they were producing this spell from was completely dark inside, allowing the magic contained there to flow freely.

"Blast of Darkness, mask of fright. Green of Emerald, Wiseman's sight. Bring us the one who can defeat them all!" said the lead witch.

With a blast of dark energy, a huge creature began to rise from the cauldron. His cloak spilled over his body. His gnarled hands held a staff with a black crystal on it. His face was scarred and broken, and showed signs of great evil.

"Who are you?" asked the witch.

"I am the Reincarnation of Shandoni!" shouted the creature, lifting his staff high into the air. A crackling field of dark energy swept through the room. "From now on, a new order will prevail. Any of those who go against my will will meet their fate, for today dawns a New Age! The beginning of the defeat of the Sailor Scouts and the downfall of Earth!"

Bowing with respect, the witches quickly got out of their new leader's way.

The forest.

A place where nature was at its best. It was where many a person had gone for inspiration, or just to clear their thoughts and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Also, it was a place of refuge to one runaway named Cansey.

The strong brown-eyed, short brown-haired girl had made her home in the branches of an elm tree, living there until she could go out into the city and make a living for herself.

One cool evening, Cansey was out picking nuts when she heard a fight going on in a nearby area. Curious as always, she decided to check it out. Peering through brush at a clearing, she was surprised to see five figures fighting some sort of huge monster wearing a black cloak and holding a staff.

*Sailor Scouts? Here? And why are they battling that _thing_?* thought Cansey, looking on. *Whoa. They're losing. Wouldn't want to interfere. Uh... better run!* Just then, one of the Sailor Scouts, the one dressed in red, shouted for a retreat. As the other four Sailors ran off into the underbrush, the other was hit in the back with an energy bolt and fell to the ground. The monster roared in triumph and disappeared. Cansey turned back to the fallen Sailor Scout.

*Who's that, I wonder? She looks still alive. Better get to my tree house.* thought Cansey. She turned back once more. *I think it's time I did a good deed.* Picking up the fallen Sailor in her arms, she turned and ran towards sanctuary.

*Where am I?* thought Sailor Mars, opening her eyes to a wooden ceiling. "Ohhhhhh," she moaned. Just hen, a girl with straight brown hair and brown eyes entered the...um, wherever Mars was. Her eyes lit up, and she ran toward the Sailor Scout. "Who are you?" asked the curious Scout.

"Uh... I'm Cansey. You're a Sailor Scout, right?" said Cansey.

"Yes-yes I am. I'm Sailor Mars. What happened?" said Sailor Mars.

"Well, you were fighting this monster, and you got hurt. I found you, and took you to my tree house here," replied Cansey.

Sailor Mars groaned. "Please tell me I'm dreaming."

Cansey shook her head. "Nope. Not dreaming. Who are you?"

"I already told you that," said Sailor Mars.

"No, who are you really?" said Cansey. "What's your real name?"

"I can't tell you that."

"Listen, Sailor-girl. I saved your life. You should at least tell me your name for that, got it?"

Sailor Mars, impressed by the girl’s spunkiness (and also still very groggy), figured it was safe to reply. After all, if she were working for the Negaverse, she probably wouldn't have saved her. At least she could drag her friends down with her if it was a trap. "Okay. Fine. I'm Rei. My friends are Serena, who is Sailor Moon, Mina, Sailor Venus, Lita, Sailor Jupiter, and Ami, Sailor Mercury. Happy?"

"Hey, don't you work at that one temple?" inquired Cansey.

"Yes, why?" said Rei.

"Well, I've been looking at it, and it's so nice. Can I go there with you?" said Cansey.

"Sure. It's the least I can do. Grandpa and I'll find a room for you," said Rei, beaming. She was sure she had just made a new friend.

"Well, let's go!"

***

The other Sailor Scouts were in shock. Two days ago, the so-called “Reincarnation of Shandoni” had killed their good friend, Sailor Mars. Serena was most stricken, to the friend's surprise. Although they had always suspected a very deep friendship between the two, they had never suspected that such opposites were so close together. Today, they sat in Serena's room, not speaking to each other much. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.

"I'll get it," mumbled Serena. She walked out her room to the door and opened it. She was surprised to see two girls standing at the door. Serena's mouth dropped open. "R-Rei! You're okay! You're okay! You're ok- who's that?" she said.

The others had run to the door, looking at the two. Rei glanced over at Cansey. "Oh. That's Cansey. She helped me out, and now she's working at the temple." Luna, who had also ran to the door, was now looking suspiciously at the young, brown eyed woman. Why did she think she had seen this person before?

"Hey, is that Luna?" asked Cansey.

"How'd you know?" inquired Luna before any of the girls could shut her up. Cansey did not appear the least bit shocked at the talking cat.

"Rei told me, you know. Your secret," said Cansey.

"You what?! YOU WHAT!!!" shouted Lita.

"Not so loud," said Rei. "Yes, I did. She knows. I've sworn her to secrecy, though. It's okay."

Mina took Rei aside. "We still don't know if she's a Negaverse spy, right? She could be anyone!"

"Would a Negaverse spy save my life?" snapped Rei.

"Well, um-I guess you're right. We can probably trust her for the moment..." said Mina nervously.

Luna entered the middle of the group. "Sailors, I have a funny feeling about this girl."

"What do you mean funny?" asked Serena.

"As in she seems almost... familiar," said Luna.

Ami perked up. "Like another Sailor Scout?"

"Perhaps. It is time I tell you the story of Sailor Phobos," said Luna.

"Sailor who?" asked Rei.

"Sailor Phobos, also known as the Lesser Sailor of Mars. Although she was not in the least bit the lesser scout. The moon Phobos, which orbits around Mars, was once carpeted in forest, and its people cared for it like their children. They also shared close ties with the royal family of Mars, having once saved one of the family from the Negaverse. However, when the forces of the Negaverse reached the moon, they destroyed the forest, also destroying the atmosphere of the planet. Swift of foot, with great knowledge of healing powers, and commanding the power of molten rock, Sailor Phobos was quite the fighter. She knew the forest like the back of her hand. That's all I heard," said Luna.

"Yep, I even got to meet her once. Nice girl," added Artimus.

"So there's a slight possibility that Cansey may be Sailor Phobos," said Ami.

"Yes," replied Luna.

"Well, how do we find out if she is or not?" asked Ami. Luna scampered into Serena's room for a moment, and came back out, holding a crystal in her jaws.

"With this. Cansey, please come here," said Luna.

Cansey, who had been sitting in the living room, came into the room. "Yes?" she asked.

"Put out your hand," said Luna.

"Sure," said Cansey, opening up her palm.

Luna jumped up and pressed the crystal into her palm. A brown shimmered to its surface. "She is!" said Luna with surprise. "You are Sailor Phobos, Cansey."

"Wha-huh? Me, a Sailor? No way!" said Cansey.

"The crystal doesn’t lie," said Artimus.

"Well, heh heh, gee..." said Cansey.

"Here is your wand. If you don't believe us, then say Phobos Star Power," said Luna.

"Well, okay. Phobos Star Power!"

A mighty spray of lava surrounded Cansey, fire and pure energy urging it on. Suddenly, a Sailor Scout in brown uniform stood before the girls. Sailor Phobos looked down at herself in mute amazement, as well as the other Scouts.

"W-what the heck?" said Phobos, breaking the silence.

"As I said before, the Crystal doesn’t lie," said Artimus.

"Welcome, to the team, Sailor Phobos," said Serena, putting her hand on Phobos' shoulder.

"And just in time! Look," said Mina, pointing out the window.

A huge bubble of dark energy had formed and swelled in Tokyo. The Dark Reincarnation was back.

"Let's go," said Lita.

"Mercury Star Power!'

"Mars Star Power!"

"Jupiter Star Power!"

"Venus Star Power!"

"Moon Prism Power!"

The Sailor Scouts got ready to fight the evil that was plaguing the world.

***

A great creature stood in the middle of the park-the source of the Nega-energy. Long blue hair flowed down her blue cape and black armor. Her hands held a staff, and her piercing blue eyes looked upon the victims of her energy sucking.

"Where are you, Sailor Scouts?" asked the creature named Nymphus.

"Right here!" said Sailor Moon.

Suddenly six... six? Figures stepped out from the shadows.

"I'm Sailor Mercury!"

"Sailor Mars!"

"Sailor Phobos!"

"Sailor Jupiter!"

"Sailor Venus!"

"And I'm Sailor Moon!"

"Six of you? Sailor Mercury... Sailor Mars... Sailor Ph- aha! Sailor Phobos. This is your first mission, is it not? It will also be your last! I challenge you to a duel."

Before any of the others had time to stop her, Phobos stepped forward, picking up a metal bar from a nearby construction of a play structure. Gripping it in her hands, she took a step toward the monster. "All right! Let's go. Staff for staff."

With a roar, the monster charged at Phobos, who dodged just in time, the staff missing her by inches. Phobos, shaking off the close call, jumped into the fray. The battle started slowly, but it picked up speed until the two warriors were nothing but a frenzied blur.

Sailor Jupiter, tired of being on the sidelines, tried to help, but Ami put out a restraining arm. "No, Sailor Jupiter," said the Blue scout. "The battle is going too fast! You will probably hit Sailor Phobos if you attack."

Admitting defeat to Ami's logic, Jupiter stood back, helplessly watching the battle. Suddenly, there was a loud CRRACK! As a staff hit home on one of the combatant's jaw. The blur stopped with Sailor Phobos holding Nymphus down with the butt of her staff, panting. She turned her head toward Sailor Moon. "Okay, who has that little wand thingy?" asked Phobos.

"Erm, me. Mood Wand Elimination!" The energy shot out, turning Nymphus to dust.

The Dark Reincarnation appeared in the air. "So, there are now six of you? Tomorrow, I will defeat you all myself! Be at this park at nine PM tomorrow."

"We'll be there," said Sailor Mars.

"I don't have a good feeling about this..." said Serena.

8 PM. One more hour until a great battle. The sailors were at Rei's shrine, reading manga to help ease their tension. However, everyone was on the verge of going crazy. One more hour.

Cansey had cooked up some healing herbs in preparation for the battle, and each one of the Scouts had been training most of the day.

It seemed forever until the clock struck 8:30, the Sailor's departure time for the park. When it finally did, the Sailors solemnly walked toward the battlefield.

The Great Battle had arrived.

***

The Dark Reincarnation stood in the middle of the park, watching and waiting for the Sailor Scouts to show their faces. When they finally did, he grinned. "Sailor Scouts!" he called mockingly. "You have come! I am surprised that such great cowards would show their faces to me!"

"I wouldn't be talking, Shandoni. Remember the Dark Moon? How you ran away?" said Sailor Jupiter.

"ENOUGH!" shouted Shandoni. "We will fight! And rest assured that none of your weapons will affect me!"

"Oh yeah? Mars Celestial Fire Surround!"

The flame shot out, its embers smashing into the enemy. Smoke shot up around the Dark Reincarnation, only to clear, revealing an unscratched Shandoni. He let out a laugh. "You see? Nothing can harm me! Why don't you try to attack me, fool Phobos? Let me see your power!"

"Man," mumbled Phobos. "Everyone's hard on the new girl." she stood up straight and cleared her throat. "All right, then! Staff for staff."

Shandoni snickered evilly and thrust out his hand. Dark energy swirled around it, forming a crystalline black staff. "Very well then. We shall fight to the death."

Roaring, he charged into Sailor Phobos. Her eyes open wide; Phobos became a blur and dodged the attack. She ran behind the evil and smacked him in the back with the rod she had used to destroy the first monster. Shandoni, not even fazed by the attack, twirled and thrust his great staff out, sending Phobos flying into the ground. She skidded a bit and then stopped, picking herself up and reading for another assault. The staff was not to come. Instead, Shandoni lashed out with his twisted hand and picked up Phobos. He threw Phobos like a doll into a brick wall, sending her into unconsciousness. He then picked up his mighty staff. Before anyone could make a move, he smashed it into Phobos' neck, breaking it.

"S-Sailor Phobos!! Cansey!" cried the Scouts.

"Ha ha! Let that be a lesson to you! Never fight Shandoni!" said Shandoni, and with a cackling laugh he disappeared into the night.

The Scouts ran to their fallen friend's side. Mars propped up Phobos' head, while Ami assessed the Scout's injuries between tears.

"I-it doesn’t look good. She's dying, you guys, we can't help her," said Ami, who then broke into sobs.

"No! I won't let her! Phobos, come back to us!" screamed Mars. "You can't leave now!!" [WHAAAAAA!! :( - ED ]

Slowly, Phobos cocked open one eye. "Sailors, it's okay. I have a feeling this isn't the end quite yet. And Mars?"

"What?" asked Mars slowly.

"Never-Never forget..." Phobos trailed off, slumping over.

"Her vital signs are flat-lining. S-she's dead," said Mercury, who then broke into tears.

"Noooooooooooo!" cried Serena. "This can't be happening!"

The tiara that was under the hair of the girl began to fade away. Moments later, paramedics arrived, but it was too late.

***

A few days later, a memorial service was held for Sailor Phobos, aka Cansey Ulpix. As the sun went down on that day, the Sailor Scouts walked away from their friend's burial site, Rei remembered her friend's final request: to never forget. How could she?

A star twinkled in the darkness.
