The Marking of Spring

Dawn is breaking on yet another Easter morning. A sunrise service on the town common heralds the resurrection and rebirth of life, of both man and nature.

This one Easter that will not be repeated is met with a beauty that has been anticipated after the foreboding winter. Azalea of pink, red and white frame the picture that will be placed in memory's keepsake box. Forsythia is swaying to the beat of nature's essence and the Wisteria is showing signs of its periwinkle blossoms.

The flower of Carolina, the Dogwood, is waking after its hibernation to greet us with reminiscence of snow like petals that scatter when the chilling wind gives one final blow as it ends the season of frostbite. A Japanese maple is reaching outward to capture its part in all this beauty with its delicate small leaves of crimson. The chartreuse lawn is covered in clover, dandelions here also, the carpet is peppered with a wild onion or two, to show contrast between the lovely and the unsightly.

Spring plants are singing the silent chorus of color. In order to listen, you must see and smell. Pansy happy faces of every color imaginable, white and pink snap dragons and nature's peppermint: candy tuft of white and so pure, a true symbol for this special day. Birds are feeding on the scattered seed left for their nourishment: Cardinal, Dove, Finch and Blue Bird. A bird bath has scattered water drops around its base, where these little feathered creatures have met at man's urban mill pond of sorts, to refresh and partake. All included in this palate of creation.

A picture of nature has been painted by the paintbrush of the Creator. We are its humble patrons. No auctioneer's commission necessary or entrance fee required, just walk among the gallery of beauty free for the taking.
